My eternal search for a good hiking camera bad may be at an end (or at least paused for a few years).
I realized it's better to pack light on long hikes so I don't want a camera bag that holds 20 lenses because all that weight will ruin the hike.  So a basic DSLR camera with a lens, plus a 2nd lens.  Then the rest of the pack is for actual day hike gear: water, food, first aid kits etc.
I carry a Nikon Z6 with a 24-200mm or 24-70mm lens. Then there's still room for a second lens (usually a 20mm prime in my case), and some spare batteries, and lens filters. All fits in the padded camera insert which has it's own shoulder strap so you can drop the backpack when you reach your destination and still wander the area with all your camera gear taking pics.

If more lenses are needed you can sacrifice space in the main day pack compartment by tossing in a 3rd party lens case. Or remove the panel between the two sections to make it one big daypack compartment.
