This backpack is great for travel and those who like to shoot movies on the go. It fits my Panasonic GH4 with Lens and batteries as well as my GoPro Hero 4 with all the separate mounts and what not. In addition, the top portion can be used to carry lots of other accessories and I've found that a monopod fits well in the side pocket.

I'm a woman just over 5' tall and I don't like backpacks that are bulky. I needed a bag to serve me on a school field trip to a local theme park. I carried my 70-200L lens and a hotshoe flash in the bottom section and put my camera with battery grip and 24-70mm lens attached in the top compartment just fine. The side pockets were great for water bottles and the waterproof cover came in handy when it downpoured. The bag was very secure on my back with the chest harness attached and didn't need the waist belt, which stayed tucked away the entire time. The backpack is versatile, light, and easy to carry. I look forward to many years with this product.

I wanted a camera backpack to serve two purposes: 1) to hold essential gear (camera with lens, a spare lens, some filters, cleaning kit, extra batteries, a mini tripod, etc, plus be able to hold a nature field guide or two, a raincoat and some snacks for short trail hikes, nature outings, and around the city excursions, and 2) to serve as a general camera bag until I needed a larger one. With the Lowepro Photo Hatchback 22L AW, I got all that and more! First of all, I'm a big guy and smaller backpacks tend look awkward on me. The Hatchback 22L is not one of these. It is not a small pack. It fits great and there is plenty of room for adjustments, plus it is comfortable and well-built. Second, the padded camera bag portion has plenty of room for my Nikon D3300 and two or three spare lenses/flash, plus additional essentials, and it is well padded. Third, the upper part of the bag has plenty of room for raincoat, lunch, two or three field guides, additional gear, and a Smartcar... (Okay, maybe not a Smartcar, but you get the idea.) It is roomy! Last, my Manfrotto Pixi Evo fits securely in the outer side pocket with a Nalgene in the other. The kicker with the Hatchback is it's ability to convert into a full backpack. Since I don't shoot every day, I can remove the padded camera bag and draw the top up to store my camera when not in use. Now, I have a nice backpack in the "day hike" category! A word on the color. Lowepro calls this Pepper Red. To me, it is a bright burnt orange. And frankly, it is perfect for me. Since I do a lot of outdoor photography, I wanted a bag that was easily visible if laid on the ground. Also, during hunting season, the orange makes me more visible! Finally, in an urban environment, the bag would be more visible if it's picked up by someone with sticky fingers. Overall, a pleasant color. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this bag a 10-plus as far as meeting my needs, expectations, and for quality. I love this bag!

This backpack was exactly what I needed. Plenty of space for my d700, two lenses, flash and more. And I love the fact that the camera compartment can be removed. It was easy to carry through multiple airports and access what I needed when. I would definitely buy this again.

I bought the bag to have for an 11 day cruise to the Panama Canal coming up in March. I took it on a quick trip to WI in January. It comfortably fit my camera Canon Rebel with the 70-300 mm lenses attached if I turned it sideways. Body and lense was approx. 8 1/2" long. I can fit the camera with its 55-135mm attached the way the bag is designed and fit another lens. I was pleasantly surprised at the room for my wallet, Ipad, book, and other "carry" on items in the front portion of the bag. I found NO cons to this bag as a casual photographer

Great backpack for the urban explorer, hiker, or everyday travel. Holds a lot of gear and everything you would need. I bought 1 for my film camera and then bought 2 more for my digital slr and to hold a GoPro, acc., and a second dslr.

I purchased this pack for an upcoming hiking trip. I was concerned that it might be too large for my mirrorless setup. It isn't. Its a very nice compact bag that would work well with a large mirrorless camera kit or a smallish DSLR kit. You could probably use a large DSLR, but then you would be limited to just one or two lenses. The top part of the pack holds a decent amount, but the whole pack is very nice and light and seems very well built. Very happy with my purchase.

Perfect for day trips, and the double use as just a day bag is a bonus. Perfect size and quality construction.

I love my Hatchback Pro. Primarilary I use it for my camera and equipment when I go on a photo shoot with our camera club. I also find it indispensable when traveling. It safely holds camera, equipment, iPad and other electronic "stuff". It also holds a change of clothes if the airline "misplaces" my luggage. The bag is lightweight and comfortable to carry.it is a treasure. So glad that I bought it.

Attracted by the versatility of being able to use it as a gear pack that has extra room (for day hikes, traveling), or as a straight daypack. Being able to remove the gear compartment completely, and open the internal "divider" are definitely key features. Shoulder straps and back padding seem plenty comfortable, and the included sternum and waist straps are definitely pluses (although the waist strap could be a little more substantial (-- wider, with pockets?). I also like iPad/tablet-size pocket on the outside-- very useful, perfect size, and reassuring that there's at least some padding. Minuses: although there's an inner pocket, it's really just one built-in zippered pouch (but it does have a key fob!); the two mesh pockets would be nicer if they were zippered, and there were a bit more pockets and such (like a conventional student daypack) for coins, tissues, gum, etc. Although the flap covering the camera compartment has one memory card pocket that's all -- add'l pockets for other small things like more memory cards, batteries, cables, lens tissues, filters, etc would have been useful and could have easily fit. The other big minus is that although the side pocket can indeed hold a small tripod, monopod, or collapsible walking pole, there's no strap to secure the top of whatever sticks out above the pockets -- even loops or other types of gear attachment points located at top corners would have been VERY useful even if I had to supply my own straps or ties. So, a few more doo-dads and compartments would have made it a great daypack or a great photo pack; without those, it's merely an adequate pack for either purpose. But, it's very good as a pack that doubles as BOTH, and the option to use it as a regular daypack is worth the sacrifices.

Great pack. Not too big for mirrorless

The Lowepro Photo Hatchback 22L AW Backpack (Slate Gray) is an excellent choice for a day out in the field, walk along the boardwalk with the family or even a quick down and dirty gig. It's designed to hold your DSLR with an 18-105mm lens attached and two or three additional moderately sized lenses, flash, accessories as well as your iPad or tablet held safely within its own dedicated compartment.
The "wow" feature of this bag is that it comes with a removable camera box which, when removed, turns the pack into a full-fledged, empty pack that can be used as a daypack. The camera box comes with a storm flap for protection and two handles for easy removal. Load it beforehand, place it in the pack and you're off. And, on days when you don't need it, just lift it out and the pack is ready for clothes, books, food, jacket or groceries.
Access is via a top loading zippered opening or its very handy side "hatch" for rapid retrieval of your camera when the shot appears. All the zippers are YKK for added durability. The 2.1 lb pack is comfortable with its adjustable backpack straps. This is an outdoor pack that is prepared for all weather eventualities since it contains Lowepro's All-Weather cover that can be rapidly deployed when the weather turns against you. The Photo Hatchback is made from strong 600D polyester and 210D nylon ripstop polyurethane-a combination made for the outdoor enthusiast.
