This works great

Given the rule that you should never shoot a serious picture with a flash on camera, sometimes it's the only practical way to get a shot. This things does what it was made to do and does it well. Easy to set up, light weight, durable, though watch out when opening that you are very gentle with the support struts as they can be easily broken.

It works well and is well constructed... with some niggles

The unit does exactly what you expect: provide soft, diffused light from a portable flash, and do it within the confines of a 8.5" x 8.5" area. You need to understand and expect what this size will do for you, in which case you'll probably like it. The construction is good overall, and the folding mechanism is handy. I'm not convinced the "lean" (the bias toward one side) is ideal, but it works. The color balance of the white fabric is neutral. Niggles: 1. The front diffuser panel, which is removable, is cumbersome to attach, and doesn't attached with Velcro. This seems like an oversight. For what its worth, the light is fine without this front attachment, as it merely provides another layer of diffusion to avoid hot spots. Note the front diffuser will eat up another stop of light in relation to having it off. 2. The rubber strap for attaching to the flash head could have a *tiny* more stroke to accommodate the smaller flashes that are now commonplace. I have an Olympus FL-600R, and it *barely* attaches to it, occasionally falling off through normal use because the strap is a hair too long. This won't matter for anything like a Nikon SB600 or larger.

The Joe McNally Ezybox Speed-Lite 2 Plus is a 22 x 22cm (8.6 x 8.6") mini softbox which attaches directly onto a flashgun whether it's on or off camera. Based on the Manfrotto Ezybox Speed-Lite 2, the Joe McNally 'plus' version features Joe's preferred white interior for a 'softer / creamier' light. This version also features the removable inner and outer diffusers for unrivalled softness of light (up to 2 stop light loss when used together), however the outer diffuser on the Joe McNally version is a recessed diffuser featuring a 45mm recess to control the spill of the light leaving the softbox.

This mini softbox also features a unique, design patented, folding mechanism with an innovative twist lock silicon strap for a quick and secure attachment to your flashgun, making it an ultra-portable, quick assembly softbox solution for today's busy photographers. Incorporated within the internal folding mechanism are also two magnets which enable quick attachment of the Manfrotto By Manfrotto Strobo honeycomb and gel holders for creative control of the light from the flashgun.
