Can it clamp onto a 1.75-inch thick piece of wood?WILLIAM R : Not quit, it's a very strong clip but the maximum bite is 1.5".RON M : The clamp I have will just fit a 1.5" thick piece.Jeffrey P : Hi Steve, this clamp will open to 2 1/4 inches so you should be good.JERRY C : The clamp will open just slightly more than two inches. HTHJOHN H : Fits quite well for up to 2 1/8 inches. The ball head works well, but if your are using it for an off camera speedlite flash, make sure that you have something that will attach to the 1/4 inch screw mount and hold a flash hot shoe. I know the Canon speedlites come with a free base that will screw in and hold the flash, otherwise get a Frio Cold Shoe.CARL K : NoPHILIP O : I,ve used it on a 2x4 which I think is 1.75".NATHAN C : I sent mine back. The little ball head works though its not designed to swivel well under load. Using a frio with it for off camera flash. Nice little clamp.

Great Handy Anywhere Flash Holder

I use this product in place of the Justin Clamp from Manfrotto - it was cheaper so I could by two of them. They do the job just fine, but MAN, the rubber grip on the clamp stinks. So I keep the clamps in a ziplock bag - no big deal. I put the clamps with flash on the top of the glass at either end at hockey rinks so I can get flash power and additional light during sports shooting - need pocket wizards of course for this. Also great for fill flash for portraits - allows you to attach flash to back of a chair, edge of a table, lamp post, etc. so you can get your flash off camera. I just wish the ball joint was a bit beefier - seems a bit wobbly. Worried it's going to fail on me one day.

Put the flash on the stand, attach it to the ball-head on the clamp, that's it, clamp it to whatever you want.

Good For The Price

I've only used these (I have two) a few times. Will they hold up? Not sure yet. Do the job now but won't support a lot of weight
