Q&A

Questions & Answers

Shopper : What is the outside diameter of the female end (the end meant to attach to a pole)?BRIAN R : It has a 5/8 baby pin on top.JEFF K : It measures exactly 1" in diameter.CHRIS B : It's about an inch, any paint pole you get at home depot will be about the same, even the short hand held ones
Shopper : Say, for instance, you want to permanently affix this to the recommended Shur-Line painter's pole. What substance would you use? Krazy Glue? Rubber Cement?eric l : Yes.Joey C : We put the adaptor attached to the pole on a drill press, drilled thru and placed a cotter pin in it. It will not become loose enough to become detached.FABIANO S : Fits petty tight, I just use few drops of crazy glue just for extra security. was very sturdy even without the glueJULIE W : I would recommend that you get some loc tite but get the blue kind since it will release if you have to remove it but it holds very well otherwise. You can get it at most home supplies and auto parts stores. I attached mine to an aluminum adjustable paint handle.KIERAN D : Can't understand why you would want to do that. If your handy. Drill and put in sheet metal self tapping screw. Or easier, clean both surfaces with nail polish remover. Mask tape outside thread lines. Add gorilla glue and screw it in. ..forever.JEFFREY R : When it's tight on a pole it's not going to come off. If I were going to permanently attach it I would use a good two part epoxy that is designed to adhere to metal and other surfaces.HENRY M : I do not use glue on mine, I just screw it on to the pole , it works fine with my Einstein 640 strobeRICH S : Go to any hardware store and ask for threadlocker. Several companies make compounds specifically anything threaded from coming looseBARRY B : Are you really sure that you want to permanently attach this to a pole? The pole will probably have a shorter life span than the clamp. If you are going to attach the pole permanently, use a Crazy Glue type epoxy or perhaps use JBWeld.MICHAEL P : The proper way to secure it would be to drill and tap a small hole so that it is secure and reversible . If you are certain that you never want to change poles then the correct adhesive would be a 'Metal to Metal Gap filling epoxy" It would come in a little blister pack that looks like a double syringe -for the 2 part epoxy' "Gap Filling referrs to a thick pasty epoxy rather than a thin runny one. Squeeze out equal parts of Part A & Part B mix well with a stick, put enough on the internal threads so you get a bit of squeeze out when you put them together . Wipe off the excess, let it dry. Any Home Depot or hardware store will have what you need. Keep it off your skin. In my view the adapter should have come with a set screw.DAN T : I would recommend "Lock Tight" which you will find in the automotive department. It is designed to keep bolts from coming loose. It comes in different strengths indicated by the color on the tube. I would recommend something in the heavy strength if you don't want to remove it. If you did decide to remove it later you may have to heat it up a bit to help break the connection loose. Hope that helps.DREW B : Wouldn't use crazy glue....thread tolerance is too loose. I would use a common two part epoxy. Mix it up, insert into the Kacey adapter, then screw it onto the pole, wiping off any excess that oozes out.EMERSON C : Although I have never tried it, I think LOCTITE® THREADLOCKER RED 271 would do the job.JAMES D : Red thread lock.ANTON N : This attachment screw s onto the paint pole so I suppose it depends on how strong of a bond you want. I can tell you, with a firm hand tightening, I have never had an issue of it coming lose. Btwn the 2 options you gave, sounds like cement would be the most permanent.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?ALICIA J : Recommended by Toni ShawGarrett O : To mount my flash units on painter poleMARQELEXSIS A : picked this after hearing for year that folks used these on painters pole to hold up a lights + modifiers for location shoots. Going to compare that setup against a Kupo handheld mini-boom solution. I want to see which one is more stable as well as easier to manage for my assistant.Andrew S : This is an excellent design!ADEBO T : Photography poleLORENZO T : Photo seminarANTHONY S : Necessary equipmentKENNETH F : easy to use painting pole to hang softbox fromBRYAN W : Best item for a Shur-Line pole to attach a ProPhoto light.THOMAS D : I am building a handle for a mono-light and need a spigot to fit on top of a cut down painter's pole.AARON H S : I purchased 1 of these adapters before and they work perfectly. Great for hand held lighting.BEN B : Using this adapter with a painter pole for lightweight On-location lightingG H : Working on locations where I can't use a stand (the woods and the lake). This will allow me to get the light I want with ease.JACOB M : stopAmos S : I needed a sturdier way of holding my lights and a painter's pole is what I chose and this adapter allows me to attach my lights.Lynn G : recommended by Cliff Hausner of ProfotoEmerico P : For lighting painting useDAWIN R : I have a nice painter pole with this adapter I will be able to use it with any strobe or speedlightBETH D : To attach my paint pole to my westcott rapid boxMichael D : to suspend a photo light fromKEVIN B : Need it so I can use my painter's pole with my softboxes.ANTHONY T : Using this to attach the LED500 Pro Daylight LED Light with V-Mount Battery Plate to a painter's pole to do light painting.Jack C : Recommendation by Syl Arena in his book 'Speedliter's Handbook'Tak M : For the shutline extension poleCHRIS G : I wanted more flexibility for an assistant to move around with a strobe...SAMUEL M : I saw a youtube video about it and thought it made excellent sense.DONNA B : Cheap & easy way to extend a small softbox & light or a diffuser panel.BRUCE D : convert "painter poles" for handheld lite stands

Great Idea

Very well made. Works as advertised. If your paint pole is dedicated for the adapter, add some adhesive before installing to keep it from potentially loosening up with a "weighty" light and modifier.

Good, with room for improvement.

Works well, bu there is room for improvement. A set screw would help to prevent it from loosening from the pole threads, and the pin should have a flat side or indentation for the screw on the attachment to secure it from loosening on that end. Make certain you tighten both very tightly and you’ll be safe. Will probably buy another.

Built well but may have compatibility issues.

This adapter is built like a tank, that’s for sure. I sort of wish it had a 1/4-20 thread on top bc that might make it more versatile since it’s not a cheap item, but it’s fine as-is except for the very top “knob” of the adapter just BARELY squeezes into my Godox Bowens S-mount adapters (how I usually use it). It works for all of my stuff so far, but it’s really tight and takes a little effort for a few of them. I’ve got it on a quick adjust (the red, padded one with one button) shur-line paint pole and it’s great.

Perfect solution to booming out lights on location

Paired with a pro quality extending painter's pole this is a great solution to lighting a subject on location whilst keeping the light out of frame. It does require a "human lightstand" but I mainly use this when shooting high school seniors and there is usually a mom or friend to act as my assistant.

A good addition to the off location shoot

Works well enough on a standard paint pole from Home Depot. I would like to see a few more threads to reassure me it's all the way on. Other than that it works well.

Great accessory!

I love finding these off the beaten path things... Saved me a ton of money getting a dedicated mono-pole... I bought the extra thick, extra long paint pole from Home Depot and it's awesome what heights I can reach! Only drawback is the paint pole minimum height is 6' 4", but then you can use a collapsed light stand...

Needs retooled

Let me start off and say that this product is a great idea. The build quality is great and it's usefulness profound. The problem I found with it is the fact that they reduced the diameter of the top part by too much. The top top part fits just fine. It's the part just below the lip that's too narrow and doesn't give support to light modifier that you're using this thing for. I ended up wrapping that part with gaffers tape and that kind of solved the problem. It'll have to be redone as it wears out. Otherwise the threading that goes onto the extension pole is great.

Great Tool

Use this to mount your lights to a paint pole. The paint poles I have found at Home Depot are much stronger and longer than the extension poles I have found with traditional photography support systems. Allow me to have my assistant hand hold my lights on location. Great for quick and easy movement.

I've used this for years

I've used this piece attached to a regular painter's pole for years, as my main portable system for lighting. All I have to do is attach my light modifiers to it and I'm ready to go. It's a simple fix and works well!

Inexpensive solution to on location lighting

Awesome piece of money saving equipment. Not a lot of that to be said in photography these days. I used this and a paint pole for the first time shooting a wedding and I was able to use my Lastolite ezbox to light the bridal couple. It's fast, easy and inexpensive. What else are we looking for in photography gear.

Solid alternative to a monopod.

I had devised 2 options to hold up a monolight. A long bolt that could be extended from the bottom of my monopod, or use a 4-8 ft Wooster Sherlock Extension Pole and the Kacey Adaptor. The monopod was top heavy, and my assistant had sore muscles from holding the flash at the proper height. The paint pole was perfect, in that it could be raised and lowered by using a click-lock mechanism instead of the twisting lock mechanism. And, the pole rested on the ground, so no fatigue for my assistant! I could even hold onto the flash and pole and shoot one handed if I needed to! Great adaptor combined with a great pole. Get the 4-8 ft pole, as it made for easy transportation as opposed to an 8-16 foot pole.

great adapter for a versatile pole

This is a well made adapter that fits the Shur-Line Paint Pole perfectly. It was shipped promptly and works exactly as expected, letting me have a telescoping pole to hold a light or light modifier above a subject when a stand won't work. I attached it with some Loctite so it won't come loose unexpectedly. The fit was good enough that may not have been essential. Sadly, the same manufacturer sells an adapter for a ball head that I had to order from them since Adorama does not carry that one. It has been 2 or 3 weeks, no product and no response to my inquiries other than to have me send them my PayPal receipt since I guess they are not organized enough to track orders. I did that, but a week to 10 days later and still no product (they are in my same state and next day is the delivery time for UPS this close). Not even a reply to my last email inquiry days ago. So buy products only from Adorama, not direct from the company.

Great piece of hardware

By STEVE S.

I am actually using this on the end of painter's pole to support a camera. This is used in conjuction with a grip head that holds a camera support attched to another grip pin. This allows me to angle the camera up and down without having to put an expensive tripod head on the top of the pole. I was quite surprised at just how light this piece was. In the photo it looks like it would be much heavier. The machining on this part is very high quality. The only drawback is that the pole a...

The Kacey Pole Adapter will let you mount your Strobes on a standard paint pole type extension pole. The patent pending design features 5/8 baby pin on top and standard extension pole threads (3/4 x 5 threads per inch) on the bottom. This will provide a simple economic solution for a photographer to have their assistant quickly move from various lighting setups where a stand is just awkward or unnecessary. Great setup for city shots where using a light stand may require a permit, windy beach shots, event, sports, weddings Combine the pole and adapter with the Beauty Reflector or Softbox Ring and you have a very portable system that will work with speedlights or studio strobes. This adapter is top quality and milled from a solid piece of aluminum.
