Questions & Answers

YURI P : I plan to use 140W LED "deformable" garage light for continuous lighting. Does the wattage rate of this socket permit using it?MICHAEL D : Yes. The maximum bulb wattage for the socket is 400W.
Shopper : do these have switches?Jerry L : Yes, each socket has a switch.
Leslie B : Can I use 100w LED daylight balanced bulbs in these? Also, does it come with an AC cord, or is that a separate purchase?MATTHEW K : 100W LED draw way less power than what these are rated for. I believe they are the standard 65 Watt rated sockets for incandescent bulbs and 100W LED equivalents are less than 1/2 that. The cord is attached and fixed to the holders.RODERICK W : Hello and the answer is yes to both questions. not a separate purchase,PATRICK M : Yup on the bulbs and it comes with an AC cord.PETER V : Yes you can use the LED 100w bulbs. They do come with power cords. The are great for the price.KENDRA L : yes you can use 100w LED daylight bulbs. No AC cord. Mine are still new in box. Don't need em. I'll sell em to you.

Great Sockets

I have a few of these. I use them with cfl lights for video. I bounce them into an umbrella. Very easy setup and take down. They are good with medium size umbrellas.

Defective, but easily fixable!

The current batch of these sockets is defective. The contacts inside the socket don't make contact with the bulb base. Normally, you would take your needle nose pliers and bend the central contact upward, but wait! That's not the problem. The problem is the side contact. Instead of using the metal threads of the socket to make contact, there is a springy sheet metal contact on the interior wall of the plastic socket. Somebody at the factory screwed up and made this contact flat instead of arched out to touch the side of the bulb base. All you have to do is reach in with a screwdriver and bend the side contact out a bit. It seems to be pretty tough and unlikely to break. It's a non-intuitive solution and I admit it took me a while to figure it out. It's confusing because the socket does have a shallow ring of metal threads, so you just assume that is the side contact point. Other than that, it's a perfectly nice product and does what you expect it to do.

Worth the money

I have a few these I bought some years ago. The new ones have a slightly deeper socket. I have a few old flood bulbs that won't make contact but otherwise they do exactly what they need to. BTW I did try bending up the contact at the base but it wouldn't go far enough.

Good Product

These sockets with light stand adaper and umbrella holder are great for the price. They are no made for a softbox. You would have to come up with some sort of rig to hold the soft box. They do work well for what they were designed for.
