Since their inception, Livescribe Pens OLED screens have been subject to failure after months, sometimes years, and sometimes just after inactive storage for weeks or months. This is a known problem. Pen works well when it's working, but when the OLED screen goes partially or completely dark, certain basic functions are no longer visible and use becomes significantly more complicated than if the screen is working. Livescribe customers complain that Livescribe is reluctant to replace pens just out of warranty (previously one year, now three years) and that LS Customer Service just tells the customer to "...buy a new model." Expensive thing to replace every year or two. Caveat emptor.

I purchased this pen for my daughter who has ADHD. She is a freshman at college and has taken various school prep classes. This pen enables her to listen to an entire lecture and write notes on the special notebook that is supplied. The notes she takes is synced to her laptop which makes it easier for her to transcribe the audio files to digitized notes. It is awesome! She is much more confident of her studies at college with this pen.

Great for taking notes in lectures. There is the sound of the pen writing but I can still hear the professor. Being able to tap on a sentence and clarify what the professor explained at that time is a life saver!

Excellent! My college student daughter loves it. She uses it to take notes in her lectures/classes. Great at writing her notes and digitizing them in storage in the Pen, then downloads her electronic notes to her Laptop. She can then organize her notes and use them to study for tests/finals. She bought it on recommendation from one of her friends who had one. She says the 2GB version is plenty for what she needs.
