Although it’s tempting, imo this is not a very good closeup option. Very glow-y wide open and even stopped down a few stops, there’s very little improvement and the contrast still suffers. I’ve never tried the canon version, and bought this instead of the Raynox so that a hood could be used, but it’s a dud. I’m returning mine. Side note: mine came very dirty; had to clean both sides of the lens...

Great lens. Works with shorter, wider lenses and short telephoto. Very clear images. Macro made easy.

Using a normal lens with or without the close-up lens doesn't make much of a difference to a macro shot. In other words, the cost of the lens isn't justified when using the standard zoom lens that comes with a camera. The standard lens takes in as much information without a close-up lens attached.

I used the 250D close-up lens with my Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM and was impressed with the results! The image is slightly larger than the kit 18-55mm lens @55mm, but much sharper. This is a great affordable way to do the occasional macro shot instead of having to buy a dedicated lens. The amount of magnification is perfect for how I use it.

This set really works well for taking close-up photographs of small objects.

Very nice quality, but in early usage seems limited to fairly flat images and short focusing distance (about 9-14 inches). I used this on a Canon 85 mm 1.8 lens with a T4i and found that the crop factor and medium-telephoto effect of the lens gives more magnification than is useful to me. I also tried it with a 50 mm 1.4 and found the results to be better - I could get a slightly larger object to fit in the frame, and a little more range of distance to work with. For a crop sensor, this might work best with a 35-40 mm to give a better balance of image size on sensor and a little more field of view. Otherwise, you may find the focus point to be too small, or mainly useful for flat images and objects.

The Adorama 250D/500D series close-up lenses incorporates a double-element achromatic design for maximum optical performance, while the standard 500 series features single-element construction for maximum economy. The 250 close up lenses changes the closest focusing distance from infinity to 250mm/approx. 9.9", and the 500 close up lenses changes it to 500mm/approx. 19.7".
