Questions & Answers

James G : landscape panoramic use. yes or no. ?????????????
MARK B : I have a Canon Rebel digital slr. I would like to use this camera for taking close-up pics of guns (especially engraved ones) to put on line for resale. Would this be the correct lens to use? I am on a budget.ANDREW R : This lens mounts on the filter ring of 77mm (diameter) lenses and is not camera specific. That being said, a lens like this is for extreme close-in work and may not be the best choice for wider angles. A dedicated lens with macro capability may be a better choice and provide more flexibility.
Shopper : Glass Metal or plastic for the Pro Optic 500d ?JOHN C : It is metal.Georganna G : Glass & metal only! No plastic; not for macro work.Louis L : Glass and Metal.JEFFREY L : METAL

Not all lenses will like it

For the money, it works but I am definitely going to invest in a good macro lens as well. I've used this with both my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 MK2 and with a steupup ring on my Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. The Canon lens hunts for focus at times and I found I am better of not using Auto Focus. It does it's job if you are not going to do a lot of macro it is much less expensive than a dedicated lens. However, with my portrait work a good 90 or 100mm macro lens will serve double duty as a portrait lens.

About Adorama Pro Optic 77mm Close-up Lens 500D

Under the umbrella of Adorama's high-quality optical solutions, the 77mm Close-up Lens 500D stands out as a superior choice for photographers seeking to capture the minute details of their subjects. This lens, part of the esteemed 250D/500D series, boasts a double-element achromatic design that ensures maximum optical performance, delivering crisp, clear images every time.

Unlike the standard 500 series, which features single-element construction, this 77mm Close-up Lens 500D is engineered to provide an economical yet effective solution for close-up photography. It effortlessly changes the closest focusing distance from infinity to 500mm, approximately 19.7", allowing you to get closer to your subjects without sacrificing image quality.

Whether you're using it with your Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 MK2 or with a step-up ring on your Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, this lens is designed to deliver consistent results. However, it's worth noting that some users have found that manual focus can sometimes yield better results than auto-focus with this lens, particularly when shooting in challenging conditions.

Ideal for photographers who don't frequently engage in macro photography but still require a reliable lens for occasional close-up shots, the 77mm Close-up Lens 500D offers a cost-effective alternative to a dedicated macro lens. It's also a great choice for portrait photographers, as it can double as a portrait lens, making it a versatile addition to any camera bag.
