Questions & Answers

Carlos R : Can a Meade ETX90 telescope be mounted on Meade coronado DSM?RICHARD R : No two different systems. The ETX needs just a tripod while the DSM uses a solar refracting telescope. Not compatible.
Bill B : Tired to get unit to track the sun, did as soon on add but does not track it. I leveled tripod using bubble level and compass in the eyepiece as instructed, turn mount to north, tightened mount, used controller to slew to sun, dead centered it, press the go to key and scope did not follow even close. Anyone have a better description of how to make this track the sun? Any help would be greatNICHOLAS I : My replacement mount is being delvered next week (Ihope before the venus transit). I will let you know if it works qany better NickRONALD B : From my experience you can't use the "Go To" button until you have performed an easy alignment with two stars. Since you are using this mount during the day, an easy alignment is not possible. To track the sun level your scope as you did and turn on "Autostar". It will give you the warning about the sun. Just press the button it prompts you to press and then it will ask information about the date and time. Go ahead an answer those questions and enter "Yes" or "No" for daylight saving time. it will then show "Select Set Up: Align Option". Press MODE. "Set Align" displays. Use one of the scroll keys (at bottom of autostar) until "Select Setup: Targets" displays. Press "ENTER". " Targets Terrestrial" displays. Use the scroll button once again and "Targets Astronomical" displays. Use the Arrow keys to slew the scope to the sun. When you have the sun centered in the scope press "ENTER" until you hear a beep. It will now track the sun. I had to purchase a second autostar because I left it in the back of my truck (I have a shell over the bed) with my solar scope in 100 degree weather. The autostar logic fried. I remember thinking it was okay to leave it in the truck because it is a solar scope and it should handle the heat. But the autostar is part of a mounting system used for several different types of scopes and the logic is sensitive to high temperatures.NICHOLAS I : I had the same problem and finally had to return mount to Meade for replacement. I have not received the replacement and have been waiting for a month. I am waiting for a reply of my e-mail from yesterday. Nick

Well designed tripod.

I use this for solar astronomy. The tripod and unit are nicely designed. Personally I would make two very minor changes. Raise the level of the eyepiece/handcontroller holder and invert the plug in port for the hand controller. As it now placed on the unit it is a little difficult to remove the controller plug.
