Brian C : i'm a first time buyer, wondering how much viewing difference there is between 6" and 8" Meade lightswitch telescopes?GLENN F : There's quite a bit of difference. The 8" gathers 77% more light than the 6". This is important for faint deep sky objects (i.e. galaxies and nebulae). This is less important for solar system objects (i.e. planets) because they are so bright. However, the 8" will have 33% more focal length than the 6". This means 33% higher magnification for all objects, for any given eyepiece. This can be counteracted to some extent using a higher power eyepiece, however, a higher power eyepiece can be more adversely affected by turbulence in the atmosphere (than a lower power eyepiece). So again, the 8" can be expected to perform better.
