Go-To Travel Camera Bag

I love my Rotation 34L camera bag for traveling. It is especially useful for long haul flights. I recently returned from a trip to Asia where I used it extensively both for the flight and for daily use.

Almost perfect...

Great bag, very useful and love the rotation. I got this size because I wanted the iPad holder and it fits perfectly. I have used this on a few trips so far and really love the ability to keep the bag on to get my camera, change lenses, etc.. It's too large to fit under airplane seats really, so must be placed above, which means it counts as your "Carry on" vs. a personal item such as a backpack. I have the 22L as well, which fits under a seat, but it can't hold my iPad. I am always looking for the perfect bag and just wish this would qualify as the personal item vs. a carry on. Aside from that it is great!

My go-to hiking and travel bag

This has become my go-to bag for most of my travels / vacations. It is airplane carry-on size, so together with another small backpack as my "personal item", I can travel to Europe or on a week-long vacation with toiletries, clothing, and my camera/drone without needing to check a bag. It't not big enough for an overnight backpacking camping trip with a tent and sleeping bag, but I love this bag so much I have considered getting the larger ThinkTank Rotation180 50L+ size for those trips. With prior camera bags I've owned, I hated having to swing the backpack off my shoulders to access the camera, or put the backpack on the ground to pull out my camera, vs keep the camera on a strap over my shoulders in front with the rest of the backpack in back. The rotational hip-belt system on this bag is completely unlike anything else I've found on the market, and I love it. I like this Rotation 180 bag even much better than camera bags like the LoPro Flipside and other companies' offerings that have a back-entry option and hip strap where you can keep the backpack on your waist and access your camera by taking off the shoulder straps and folding the backpack down in front of you. It's so much nicer to keep the shoulder straps on with this Rotation 180 bag. Even when hiking in the mountains, it's easy to swing the hip-belt around, access my camera, snap a few pictures, and then put my camera away and keep hiking without breaking stride. This is especially nice when out with my family who often aren't tolerant of a "stop to take pictures" moment, when there's snow on the ground, or when I unexpectedly see some wildlife. It's so much faster accessing the camera with this bag than with other bags that you have to take off your shoulders. Further, this hip-belt style where the camera pocket is not accessible unless you swing the hip-belt out, adds a degree of safety when traveling in urban areas where you have to worry about pick-pockets. When on vacation, the top section is large enough that I can get a change of clothing for a week, with my toiletries and extra supplies for a vacation in another small backpack that I leave in my hotel room. I then use this bag as my day-bag when wandering around cities or hiking. When I'm hiking, the outer jacket pocket, pouch for a water reservoir, and webbing loops for clipping panniers and extra gear is especially nice. When in cities, the pocket for a water bottle is great, and then I use the water reservoir pouch to hold a laptop or my iPad. I can fit a mirrorless camera with a 20-70 lens attached, a small drone, and extra batteries / charging supplies in the hip-belt. The latching system for the hip-belt works great, and is easy to handle one-handed. I only rarely travel with a tripod, even when hiking, but the tuck-away tripod holder on this bag works well. I only wish they made this bag in more colors. I also bought third-party velcro dividers to customize the storage spots in the hip belt the way I wanted in order to efficiently fit my drone and batteries and camera with lens the way I like it so that the drone and camera are both instantly accessible - as another reviewer noted, if you rely on the dividers that come with the bag, there may be wasted space in the hip-belt because they don't have good velcro attachment points to allow you to organize equipment vertically.

Fantastic Rotation 34L bag but...

The 34L Rotation is the bag I've been waiting for. Absolutely perfect for mountain hikes, swapping lenses on narrow, windy paths is a breeze, and, with the stah master, the bag can even hold longer telezooms (RF 100-500 for instance). But... I just hate the impractical hip-bag dividers. Especially with smallish lenses, there is a total lack of flexibility which could easily have been prevented. Velcro on ALL side-walls, more and higher dividers. Why not offer an optional set of dividers? I replaced mine with dividers from a competitor's shoulder bag... Otherwise, I buy the Rotation 34 anytime again! PS: it's now my Mindshift backpack number 4...

EXCELLENT

Excellent bag. Amazing Design that allows ease of access to equipment while keeping it protected and at hand when needed. I have used it under the most extreme conditions, to the North Pole, Antarctica, it has been splashed with salt water dropped on the ground, yet equipment has always remained safe and in good working condition. easy to travel with and with no hazel at airports and customs. THANK YOU

Success story: the photo gear survived after falling down the rock wall (1/2)

...?here is a rule of mountain hike: the last hour is half the way. When returning to the tent from the climb, I wanted to cut off the path, so I decided not to go around the Small Tooth rock by a familiar and safe route, but to go down the almost smooth boulder wall. Not by a vertical wall, of course: it is oblique. There were snags and some attacks, and even before that I did much more difficult exercises in the mountaineering sense, so I felt absolutely confident. I felt myself on a safe side just until one wonderful moment, when I began to slide uncontrollably down the rock. It was a small "stair" below, quite large to stand on; in fact, that's why I climbed that way. However, it was farther and lower than I would risk safely sliding or jumping on. To steady myself, I dropped my camera bag and let it slide onto the same rock stair. The bag did so, but, unfortunately, it could not stay on the stair, or it simply wanted to travel the mountains alone, without me. On the way down, it quickly threw out a thermos and bear perfume from the side pocket - then I still had time to see exactly where they fell, but then the backpack rolled and flew down rapidly, and its further trajectory became unknown. Without the extra weight and the artificial ****, I climbed down where I wanted, and, although the extremities were trembling, I went down and picked up my thermos and the canister of bear spray. I still haven't seen the backpack from above. On the way back to the tent I lost the bear spray again: it fell out of my pocket, and rolled over; I was already too tired to climb after it and then back up. While the sun was high, I went downstairs to search. Beside the photo equipment, including the most favorite lenses, the backpack contained the wallet with money and documents, a phone, a hard hat (I took it off and put on a hat when I felt safe, yeah...), an apple and nuts, a folding knife and, for some reason, a toothbrush with a tube of paste. As I walked, I mentally said goodbye to all the glass staff - for sure, to the camera - almost certainly, but hoped to find the phone intact enough to use it the next day to call an Uber, somehow get home... One who seeks shall find. I searched very carefully, and after half an hour of walking and an hour of searching, I saw the backpack. It flew and jumped about fifty meters from above, there was neither a tree nor a bush on this path - just rocks. I've observed a few visible holes on the top of the fabric, but in general the bag looked almost intact, the frame was also undamaged. When I picked up the backpack, I've feel it shaking. The first thought was - it must be the phone... I took it out, but no - the phone remained switched off. I tried to call; although there was no coverage, the phone remained intact and worked, so the connection was potentially there. Hooray. I took on my phone a picture with the backpack and the wall from which it flew down. The phone remained in my hands, but the backpack continued to shake even without it. What a... What was that, John Barrymore?.. I was also shivering two hours ago, but, firstly, not like that, and it has long since passed, and secondly, I imagined my backpack to be more cold-blooded, although its flight should not be compared with my descent... Finally, I found it; then it turned out to be a vibrating toothbrush: although it was in a hard case, somehow the button was pressed there... Okay; turned off the brush, but did not open the inner rotating belt-pocket, where there was a headlamp and a camera with the lenses (each in a separate compartment, except for the one on the camera). I've jumped a little, and listening; heard nothing like a sound of a broken glass, so went back to the tent with the found backpack on my shoulders.

Will be great for hiking!

I bought this pack for a trip I have coming up. I like to take at least one photography trip a year and my old camera bag wasn't sufficient (I could hold my camera gear and that was about it). My trips often include a lot of hiking, mountain climbing, etc. I usually find myself fumbling around with my camera hanging and awkwardly holding my tripod. With this pack, it's so easy to access my camera I can easily stow it and pull it out as needed! I got the 34L, which is probably a little bit bigger than what I needed, but I think the 22L would've been too small. Overall really pleased with the quality, ease of use, and design of this bag!

Well made, easy to get to my gear

I just received the pack yesterday, so I have been trying to figure out what fits. I'll report back later when I have used it in the field. Overall the pack seems well designed and very well made, like all TTP gear. It's not ultralight by any means, but it was easy to get a good fit on my torso length, and the waist pack is easy to move around front for access to gear. It easily carries my massive tripod. How you feel about the camera waist pack will depend on what gear you want to put in it. There are three main compartments, they are long and skinny, and tall enough to hold a longer telephoto zoom. But the dividers don't have any Velcro attachment points, so the compartments can't be subdivided vertically - there is only a horizontal flap on the side compartments to separate gear lying down, one on top of the other. If you are using large gear, this is fine, but for my smaller Fuji X system, there is wasted space. I tried various gear that I own to see what fits: Fuji GFX medium format: the GFX-50s with the 32-64 attached, and a 100-200mm lens next to it. Or, a GFX-100 (the really big one) with the 32-64, with the viewfinder removed, lying on its side. Fuji X: Any of the Fuji bodies will fit with a standard zoom lens attached, and no vertical grip, in the center compartment. This leaves room on each side for another lens. The 70-300 stands up vertically, leaving enough room for another lens in that compartment, but there is no way to attach a divider vertically - I am going to sew on some Velcro to make this work. The Fuji 100-400 fits, sticking up out of the compartment, but I can close the lid and get the waist pack back inside the pack, so that's a good thing. Or I can fit two X-H1 bodies, each with a lens attached, lenses facing down, and possibly fit a smaller wide angle as well. Batteries or filters will fit in the pocket inside the lid. There are no exterior pockets on the waist pack. There is plenty of room inside the main compartment for hiking gear, clothing, and food. I could probably make this work for a weekend trip with my compact, ultralight hiking gear.

Weird bag that does a lot of not obvious things.

I bought this bag initially to replace a day bag that I used to bring to the beach and on vacation with the family, to be used in situations when carrying non photo get was more important, and also something I could pack a lot into. I end up carrying my kids things, and my things. My first time using it was in NYC for an all day engagement shoot, and I have to say it was great. I only took this bag, and packages my clothes and gear in it. It went in the overhead bin on the plane just fine. On the actual shoot day I was able to pack a rain coat, two umbrellas, the client's personals, including a change of shoes to walk longer distances in, along with lots of other random stuff, and 2 cameras, and 2 lenses. This bag is meant for adventuring, but I find it works really well in cities when you need to walk a lot and also be a pack mule. Another surprise use for this bag is to nearly replace my entire think tank belt and lens pouch system. Normally at weddings I use the think tank belt with 3 lens pouches and the spider holster attachment. When I tried the hip bag alone without the backpack attachment I found it so comfortable that I put my spider holster on it and took it to a wedding. While it doesn't look as cool, I much prefer using this at weddings now. I'm super happy with this bag, and continue to be surprised at it's usefulness.

Practical, functional, thoughtful.

Love it! It's durable and has a lot of little features/details that really elevate the user experience. It's also the first backpack of this size that I've used that displaces the weight comfortably across my back. Great product and will consider the smaller size for quick trips in the future.

Rotation 34 V2 major upgrades!

I love the color choice for the materials but the new magnet/zipper system along with the slightly deeper belt pack is perfect for my Sony A9 and 24-105f4 zoom as well as the 70-180 2.8 and 17-28 2.8 Tammy's (tamron). Quick access to all 3 lenses is amazing for my ski and Mtb action shooting. Great access to my avalanche shovel, probe and extra layers in the external spaces on the pack too. Great improvements for V 2.

Better that expected

I took this one (34L) to the Badlands backcountry for an overnight trip. The rotating camera belt works perfectly, it was easy to carry four liters of water in bottle and hydration pack. The main compartment is big enough for pad, sleeping bag, extra clothing, and food. Moreover, one can easily, safely, and comfortably fit a small tent between the harness and the top compartment at neck height.

Amazing!!

Guys, just received my 34L rotation and I am BLOWN AWAY by the quality and design of this bag. Of course will take some time in use to get a better assessment, but off the bat, you guys have hit a home run with this pack. I did not have the prior generation but the cleverness, thoroughness, thoughtfulness and innovation that have gone into this pack are outstanding. Can't wait to hit the trail with this pack and get some great images. Thank you so much for making this product what it is.

First impresion so good.

Just unpacked and adjusted my Rotation 34L backpack and I have to say that this is better staff than I expected from Kickstarter description. I had some difficulty to understand the basic of operation of the rotating chamber but as it is made in practice provides excellent flexibility and is very usful in daily photo tracling. Today I would propably opt for larger size (50L) to have more space for camping staff.
