You are looking at the Slam! Mastering Version Tube Stereo Limiter, a high-quality, professional-grade product from the well-respected brand, Manley Labs. This advanced and innovative audio equipment is designed to meet the exacting demands of mastering engineers worldwide.
The Slam! Mastering Version is a specialized product, featuring all-tube tape repro head amps, digital converters, high-powered vacuum tube monitor amplifiers, and custom monitoring consoles. It is built with 1% metal film resistors on sealed gold-contact Grayhill switches, ensuring durability and longevity.
This version of the Slam! is unique in its features. It does away with microphone preamps, replacing them with dedicated "mode" switches for the ELOP and FET limiters. The ELOP limiter is equipped with multiple ratios - 10:1, 5:1, 3:1, 2:1, and a new feature called AutoHF. This feature starts off as a 1.5:1 ratio and gradually increases to 10:1 for highs, functioning like a de-esser and working in conjunction with the ELOP SC toggle at 200Hz for added effect.
The FET limiters come with new modes - 50%, Norm, LP Lim, both, and clip. The "50%" setting mixes the straight signal with the limited signal, doubling the amount of gain reduction. The "LP Lim" setting reduces the depth of gain reduction for high frequencies, allowing more high frequencies to pass through without being limited. The "clip" setting introduces a fixed threshold clipper circuit, while the "both" setting engages both the "LP Limit" and the "clip" functions simultaneously, ideal for projects demanding intense volume.
The Mastering Version of the Slam! also features a master stereo limit bypass switch, a DAC select switch (stereo), and an Unbalanced 1/4" jack input select. All knobs in this version are discrete detented switches in mostly 1dB steps, with some appropriate 1/2dB and 2dB steps, ensuring precision and ease of use.
The Slam! Mastering Version Tube Stereo Limiter is not just a piece of equipment; it's a tool that enhances the quality of your audio production, offering a warm, vintage sound that is characteristic of tube equipment. It's a worthwhile investment for professionals who value high-quality, durable, and reliable gear.
