Because professional audio quality is paramount, the Stereo Variable MU Limiter Compressor by Manley Labs is the ideal choice for audio engineers and music producers. This high-quality, durable, and innovative audio processing equipment is designed to control the level of audio signals in a recording or live performance. It's the secret weapon that binds your mix together, transforming it into a polished, professional final product.
This reliable compressor is built with all-tube, all-transformer circuitry, a trademark of the reputable Manley Labs. It features a tube/valve circuitry known for its warm, rich sound, setting it apart from solid-state alternatives. The unit comes standard with a High Pass Side Chain modification, enhancing its performance and versatility.
The Stereo Variable MU Limiter Compressor is equipped with Manley input and output transformers, featuring nickel laminations in mu-metal cases. This ensures a flat frequency response from 20Hz-25KHz. Its fully differential ALL-TUBE circuitry uses one each 5670, 5751 (or 12Ax7), 7044 (or 5687) & 12AL5 per channel, providing a robust and dynamic sound.
The unit features independently regulated B+ and Heater supplies, a hard-wire BYPASS switch, and a stepped switch INPUT attenuator. It also boasts large, illuminated Sifam meters and a STEREO LINK SWITCH. Multiple units can be linked for surround sound, making it a versatile choice for various audio setups.
The Stereo Variable MU Limiter Compressor operates on 100V, 120V, or 220-240VAC, and the operating mains voltage can be easily changed with a power transformer changeover switch and fuse value change. This makes it adaptable to different power sources and suitable for use in various countries.
The compressor works by using the "remote cut-off" or re-biasing of a vacuum tube to achieve compression. The unique 5670 dual triode is at the center of the peak-reducing and compression action, constantly being re-biased by the vacuum tube rectified side-chain control voltages. This results in a smooth change in its gain, providing a unique and desirable sound quality.
The Stereo Variable MU Limiter Compressor is not just a tool, but a staple in mastering studios worldwide. It has contributed to most hit records over the last decade and will likely continue to do so. Its innovative design and superior performance make it a must-have for any serious audio professional.
