RECIJO M : Does this camera have manual setting?BUSINESS O : to some extent... auto or manual focus, you set the exposure using the available choices. There are many options. So far, I like it for a cross between digital and manual and has taken great film. Good teaching camera for students who have grown up in a digital world!TIMOTHY M : Sony accepts lenses with Minolta mounts as they bought ought Minolta's technology licenses before it went out of business.
No camera ships with a battery unless offered as a package deal such as a kit.
All camera batteries are expensive- it is the mature of the beast. Unless of course you possess one of the very few utilizing AA batteries which are not advisable as they usually don't last- the frame count per battery is abyssmal and some of the cameras themselves will not have the longevity of others more powerfuldue to thier higher power capacity and proven dominance in the industry. I had a couple, so I know.
Actually with more current models you may find otherwise as a Canon I had died too soon (as compared with the many other models of their line having been designed for the standard photo-cell formats) working flawlessly. however more recent Fuji Finepixes have fared better in my experience.TIMOTHY M : Risa,
No,it merely provides 'scene modes' for optimum settings chosen by the camera itself.
That is all.
The Minolta spXI, which I also purchased from Adorama does however provide these controls and though I am uncertain on this next, the 600si may also allow more user intervention.
Nonetheless, it is still a competent SLR and you should be able to get fine results one you know its limitations.HOWARD M : Bum deal. Leave it alone. Minolta has not made cameras for several years and no other camera manufacturer supports Minolta cameras. Additionally, Adorama does not give refunds on this camera. It even ships without a battery to operate the camera and the battery is somewhat expensive. I happen to have the battery I bought and it doesn't work in any other electronic device I own.
Skip purchase!
MacHOLLIE A : No, it does not.ANDREW R : While this camera does offer a manual focus mode, the 300si is not equipped with a manual exposure mode.
Shopper : can we put the new sony full frame lens on it ? like the 20mm f2.8 ?TIMOTHY M : I will correct myself by saying that Mnolta to Sony will likely work for you due to the mount utilized in many current and slightly past models; however Sony on Minolta as said my be learned friend is not in all likelihood going to work. Remember too that even within one brand earlier models had differing mounts than more recent ones for compatibility with AF and other electronic settings within the camera itself. Eg, a mount used on far older MF cameras is long ago exchanged for one with more pins for motor compatibility with AF, etc. So dont buy a mount from a time when cameras were manual and later became mostly computers.HOWARD M : Do not buy. Minolta is out of the camera business and no company is servicing Minolta cameras. Waste of time and money.
MacTIMOTHY M : As far as I know, any Minolta lens will fit Sony so I assume the reverse applies as well.(Sony bought and still uses all of Minolta's technology including the rights to their lens mount.)
Mickey T : Im a hardcore noob with Photography and all and im also perr slow so sry for asking this prolly obvious question but I was wondering if this camera can take any random black and white film?TERRY D : All 35mm blk & white plus color.TIMOTHY M : Yes, as long as it is '135' (that was the designation for 35mm film) format.ANDREW R : The only requirements are that; the film be in a standard 35mm cartridge, be no more than 36 exposures, and the cartridge should be DX coded (almost all factory loaded film cartridges have DX coding). Black & White, color negative, and color slide films will all work with this camera.
