Great idea poorly executed

I recommend a new version, Version 3, that doesn't exist yet. I'd use a lot of them if they were improved. I've been using the 12x13 and 8x9 versions for book mockups and artist's proofs. They're a wonderful idea with design and material faults that should be corrected in a new version. They'd then be excellent for portfolio books and wedding albums continuing original prints. To begin with, they shouldn't be black. One of the main uses for them would be wedding albums, in a shade of gray that doesn't soil too easily. Black is appropriate only for divorces and funerals? Second, the finish shouldn't be tacky-shiny. The earlier version had buff surfaces that were in good taste. The shiny ones shoot the opposite. Third, the screws don't work. They're soft aluminum and the heads disintegrate if the book is bound more than once.. The whole point of screw-post binding for fine-art portfolio books and wedding albums is that you can remove one or more images for framing, and exchange these from time to time. But the screwheads disintegrate quickly with re-use. They should be brass or steel, which are readily available (I've been buying steel screws online from Chicago screws to replace the poor-quality ones.) Fourth, even the wrapping is inadequate. The plastic shrink-wrap is so thin that the stacked boxed units, during packing and shipping (even direct drop-shipping), rub shiny spots onto the slipcover. The lighter abrasions can be removed by rubbing in circles with a towel, but the deeper ones are permanent. Even though these are units a really really really good idea, they don't seem to be selling well. If the design and material flaws were corrected, I think they'd be a hot item. You can use them advantageously for mock-ups and give-away copies, but in the current version they aren't a professional product. They need to meet higher standards for binding original prints.

GOOD IDEA

I think this is a great idea to have a a paper that jives with a book (and the lasal photo matte is great paper) but this book is cheap looking and I can't use it to show clients. Nice for a student I guess.
