Sue V : I have a new Motorola surfboard modem and when I hooked it up there was a red blinking lightning sign showing up. What does that mean?FRANCISCO M : WHAT DOES THE SIGN READ? HAVE YOU REPEATED THE PROCESS? HAVE YOU CONTACTED MOTOROLA? HAVE YOU BROWSED THE MANUAL? IT COULD MEAN MORE THAN ONE THING.ABELARDO V : Sorry I don't remember or experience that type of situation on my Motorola SBG6580.DOUGLAS P : This modem is a router as well so there is no need for a separate router. Not sure where the lightning bolt is on this.RICHARD N : It could mean that there is no signal coming in...please check you internet cable on the roof...Sue V : No. I have a separate Motorola router.

It has 4 ports in the back, so you can hook up more than one device. Ernest M : does the blue light blink? If not what should do?RICHARD D : The blue light remains illuminated with no blinking along with three other lights in green. The only light flashing is the antenna icon in green below them.MICHAEL O : No, never had it happen.SCOTT H : if blue light is blinking, your cable connection is down, call the csable company if it was working (solid blue light) before, and you haven't changed anything.GEORGE G : When the modem is fully operational, the blue light remains solid.

Works as advertised

Everything works for me so far. I'm on a Mac and use it for TWC cable. Set up is fairly easy. Setting up WiFi requires a bit more of a research online because the docs that comes with it missing some infos and not clear enough. Go to Youtube and search for it, it's there.

No Problems

We bought this modem to use with Time Warner cable so that we wouldn't have to pay the ridiculous monthly rental fee for one of their modems. We chose this over some other cable modems mostly because it had wireless capability so that we wouldn't have to buy an additional wireless router. We've had this modem for a week and have not had any issues with it.

Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0

This cable modem did not perform as expected.I was disappointed to learn that my connection speed was worse than my old DocSIS 2.0 modem even numerous attempts of activation with ISP.
