For years I've struggled carrying photo equipment on long hikes. I bought this a year ago and it has lived up to the hype--sturdy, well designed and engineered so that 20# of stuff doesn't feel that heavy, even after miles on the trail. I used the rain cover for the first time and it goes on quickly and keeps everything dry. I love this bag. It also compacts nicely to fit in airline overhead bins. Highly recommend.

So far, very good. I've used this pack only a few times and time will tell how much I enjoy it. It fits my gear well. It's comfortable hiking as it has great adjustable straps. Feels like a good backpack design. I like the top handle, which makes it easy to carry when not on your back. The one thing I'd like to seem improved is the size of the side pockets. They are just large enough for average water bottles, but could be slightly larger to accommodate different size bottles. With the cinch system it would be easy to tighten while the larger pocket would be more versatile. Great pack!

Just bought this 20L over the weekend and really happy with how it handles. I wanted something I could handle easy on the trails but have enough capacity for a new 100-400 lens among my other gear. Mike

I found the excellent FirstLight 20L Back Pack too small for what I needed to carry. The internal dimensions were slightly smaller than shown in the online specifications. Tank was happy to exchange it for a 30L in which everything fit perfectly. I am a long time customer of Think Tank and find their products and service second to none.

We just returned from a two week stay in Costa Rica and this backpack was exceptional. Inside: I carried my Nikon 200-500 zoom with camera attached and tripod collar oriented upwards, 105mm Micro (the newer one), and my 20mm F1.8. Also, my SB-700, a Lee Filter Kit, lens cleaning things like Gottos puffer and small towels. Outside: I carried bug repellent and a large container of water. My hat (with neck protector) fit nicely in the outer external zipper, and a small towel fit nicely in the secondary zipper. In the top pouch I stashed a fair sized bottle of sunscreen. With the stringed zippers oriented at the top of the pack, I was able to open this very quickly extract my 200-500 zoom. The padded shoulders and back kept the backpack comfortable and very dry. I’m extremely happy!

Best camera bag I have ever owned! It feels small and easily fits into airline overhead compartments. But is is not a small bag, its just designed very well. I carry two Canon Mark 5's, a 24-70, 2.8, a 70-200, 2,8, a 50mm 1.2, a 13inch Macbook and all the extraneous stuff you need. My only complaint is that I wish there was just a bit more padding for the laptop.

This pack is great. I have a long torso, and the adjustable harness makes the waist-belt comfortable and effective. It is just the right size for my needs. If I could change anything, I would do two things... first, make the side pockets a bit bigger and deeper to hold Nalgene bottles more easily. The second thing would be to add a side handle like the 30L has. That would make it much easier when flying.

I recently purchased a new camera along with a telephoto lens. I wanted to keep my older camera along with lenses, flash, and other assorted accessories. I wanted a bag that would protect my gear but still be comfortable to carry. The MindShift FirstLight 20L Backpack filled that need perfectly. The bag is configurable to be nearly anything you might need. Dividers are easily moved to fit specific devices in any orientation you might want. The construction of the bag is top notch which was quite fortunate when a new puppy started gnawing on it while I was playing with my new purchase. I've also owned many backpacks in my life and I can say this is easily the most comfortable backpack I've ever had. It has all of the adjustments you would expect and need to ensure it will fit you properly. I was able to take advantage of tripod harness as well as a spot for a monopod. Once on, I felt that I'd have no problem hiking to whatever vantage point I might want to shoot from. Overall I think this is an outstanding backpack that I'd recommend to my friends and family.

I'm female with a short torso and most backpacks don't fit well. The FirstLight 20L fixes that by making the height at which the straps come forward across your shoulders adjustable. Fully loaded with the shoulder straps all the way down it fits me. I wanted to put a Canon 7D Mk II with a big telephoto attached, ready for use. Not possible. I had to take out all the separators, put the hood on reversed (a must to protect the lens), loosen the tripod collar and rotate it 90 degrees. Then the lens on camera fit near the center. The front compartment must bend slightly around the hood to zip up so forget putting a flat, rigid 15" laptop in there. Also, there's less room for additional equipment. But so what? With the weight of camera and accessories in a well fitting backpack I only had to carry the big tripod & gimbal. I'm happy.

Able to carry a Hasselblad 500C/M, SWC, three backs and four lenses, and a tripod on a shoot at Point Lobos, CA. Worked well. Don't know how I could have carried all that gear sans a sherpa.

Bought Mindshift 20 L bag the other day. Looks very stylish and accommodative. However, One thing I did not like from the first time I packed a bag that it is not deep enough. I usually have a battery grip on my camera body. I have to take it off Every time to have a good fit of equipment, Otherwise the bag does not close. Unfortunate that I have to do this every time. Otherwise it is a very good bag, I would recommend it for those with small amount of gear and low profile cameras. The other thing, it is too pricey.

The FirstLight 20 couldn't be more perfect. I have been hunting high and low for a camera backpack both my husband and I could use. We do a tremendous amount of hiking and take turns carrying the load. Being of different body types it has been a challenge to find one pack that will work for both of us - this is it. I also have to commend MindShift for making such a high quality pack. The zippers are beefy, material thick, and all the features are well executed. I have had many photo backpacks and this one stands tall at the top of the pack.

First, let me state that this bag is REALLY well made! I loved the suspension system and comfort, but...if you carry a long lens that has a collar with a tripod mounting plate, this bag is not for you. In order for a Canon 7D with a 400mm f5.6 to fit in this bag, one would have to rotate the lens collar 180 degrees, which would make using this bag get old very quickly. I had to return it.
