Very versatile backpack

I spent a lot of time looking online for a backpack that would: 1/ Meet airline carry-on requirements; 2/ Hold two camera bodies with attached lenses; and 3/ Be configurable enough to leave my log telephoto attached to the camera body. The Firstlight 40L met all my requirements and I'm looking forward to using it.

I am happiest when?

?all of my gear is with me, compact and snug in their own space. Waiting to be released into a world of creativity and color, to transform concepts into manifested reality. I am happy because this bag allows me to be at one with my gear.

Best camera bag I have ever owned! So many features!

I did a lot of research on backpacks and I had a lot of criteria it had to meet. It had to fit my 17? laptop with multiple external hard drives and other accessories, my Sony 200-600 along with other lenses, camera bodies, and accessories, and it has to be able to be a carry-on for travel. I was doubtful I would find something that did all that and have such great protection and quality but I did! The construction of this Thinktank bag is incredible. The material inside and out is very tear resistant and the zippers will last forever. It is also very comfortable to wear on hikes and has so many awesome features I wouldn?t have expected like the extra pocket for a 3 liter hydration pack and the adjustable height for taller people. It?s amazing all around.

Extremely good backpack

I have been using this backpack for extended length wilderness adventures for years now. It is very durable, well constructed and adjustable for comfortable carry. Also, it can easily expanded with add ons . I cannot recommend it highly enough for serious backpackers, nature photographers and anyone else in the outdoors for days in a row.

Versatile quality!

I?ve owned several photo backpacks and this is by far the best thus far. Fits most planes as carry on in the overhead compartment. It?s a tight fit in smaller size airplanes overhead compartments, but it will fit if you ?finesse it?. Otherwise it fits perfectly in any standard aircraft. It?s quality is obvious and can haul that heavy gear comfortably! Great backpack for the traveling photog!

FirstLight® 40L

I was able to take equipment I was using two backpacks to hold lighting equipment and combine all of it into the FirstLight® 40L making it more convenient to carry onto the field for team photos etc... the FirstLight® 40L now holds two Profoto B1 heads and Two Profoto B10 Plus heads and Chargers, accessories as well as modifiers all in one backpack. the FirstLight® 40L is a sturdy well built backpack that meets my needs.

One of the most comfortable ways to carry 40L

I've been using this backpack for about a year, and it's definitely one of the most comfortable backpacks I've ever had. Whether it's a long day on the trail, or I'm just standing around shooting photos near water and can't set the backpack down all day, comfort is extremely important to me. I need a massive, padded (and reinforced) waist belt, and this is one of the few backpacks out there that offers the right amount of stiffness and padding in both the main frame and waist belt. The shoulder straps are also more adjustable than most other backpacks, making it possible to correctly distribute weight to your hips instead of your shoulders. (At least for me, at 6'2".) My all-time favorite backpack is the Mindshift Rotation 180, admittedly, but it's a more unique backpack while the Firstlight is a more universally useful (and spacious) backpack. It's also extremely durably built, and has survived a ton of abuse without incident. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who needs to carry this much gear!

My new GoTo Bag for Field Sports

The FIRSTLIGHT 40L is my new primary goto backpack for field sports when my roller is not used. It easily fits 2+ canon pro bodies, 300mm, 70-200mm, 16-35mm, 24-70mm as well as extenders, shoulder straps, gloves and still has plenty of room for spare batteries, cards and other needed accessories. The one thing I wish was better was the ability to store or conceal the backpack straps once on site. Small stadium seats sometimes make it hard to layout for easy access. Still a great bag. I would recommend it to others.

Very happy customer

Full disclosure-I am not affiliated with thinkTank in any way, but, I love their products. My primary criteria for purchasing a backpack is comfort and quality. After trying many other brands I find thinkTank backpacks to be extremely comfortable for me to carry all day in all kind of conditions. They protect my gear and my back. I am a medium framed women with some back issues. I can wear a thinkTank pack all day long sometimes over crazy challenging terrain with no problems. I Currently own and use 6 different bags depending on the gear required for the project. (Street Walker, Airport Airstream, Mindshift MP3V2, Street Walker Harddrive, Lily Deanne, and First Light 40L) Each has its distinct purpose for me. My newest addition, the FirstLight 40L accommodates my DSLR Pro Body and fast super telephoto lens perfectly. There is additional room for a second camera body and several other lenses, flashes, and assessories. Because of the thinkTank technology I can carry the heavy load with very little effort, and keep my gear protected. Keep up the good work thinkTank.

Quality, well built backpack

This is a big bag, for big or many lenses. It carries the weight well. It looks and feels well built, and I expect it to last a long time. I bought this bag over others for the height adjustable straps. The less than perfect rating is because I’d like a little more height in the straps.

Fullfills beyond my hopes

Comfort is exemplary. Fully loaded with 2 bodies, and 5 lens Plus drone, 4 battery’s, 3 chargers and other bits it weighs 24lbs. NO- this not the walk around and work kit , but the travel kit in total. Flew on US and Mexican airlines - no loading issues or grim looks from ground personnel. I fully expect it willl be superb ‘in the field’ tool. Strap system and adjustments will allow tailoring it to various environments. To me, it embodies what i have come to appreciate and expect ThinkTank products to be. Bravo. The pre-sales support was REALLY helpful too. Thanks for the continued creation great highly serveiceable products.

THE 8x10 pack

Have been looking for a pack for my 8x10. This pack, while not perfect, is the best that I've found. Inside it fits the 8x10, dark cloth, 5 film holders, 3 lenses, spot meter, and various other small items. Outside I attach my tripod and head. The straps are easily adjusted for a comfortable ride. The only additional feature that I'd like to see is to allow 2the rear pocket to expand. Very satisfied.

This bag allows me to put it all in one bag

I have a F-Stop Loka bag that I really like but could not get everything inside that I wanted to carry. Body, 14mm, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 f4, 100-400, flash, LED light, lightning trigger, batteries, cards, and all the other misc stuff. Not that I wanted to carry it with me all the time but to have it in one bag, not two. I can always leave stuff in the truck. This bag allows me to put it all in one bag. The only negative is it's not a back open like my F-Stop, oh well, still a great bag.

Waist Belt cripples backpack functionality

The waist belt is sewn into the backpack and won't sufficiently support the loaded weight properly depending on your body build and the weight in the pack. If the waistbelt was offered in three sizes and had better side supports built-in it would make this backpack one of the best packs available. Even after adjusting all straps you are not able to achieve proper balance.

Outstanding for the hardcore trekker.

Well, what to say. It is everything and anything an avid outdoor photographer can ask for. Holds a ton of gear for long treks, inside and outside. Extremely well designed, top quality manufacturing. I've recently completed a long wilderness trip with this backpack. I carried a lot of gear and supplies on my back. My back appreciated the padding and weight distribution of the Firstlight 40L. This is the most comfortable and sturdy backpack I've ever come across, and I had a few. Highly recommended for serious trekking.

MindShift Gear?s FirstLight Outdoor Camera Backpack

Being an avid hiker in a previous life, I am pretty pedantic when it comes to adjusting my pack for comfort. Afterall, when you are carrying about half your body weight over a couple of hundred kilometers on foot, you want your pack to sit just right. The FirstLight was obviously designed with comfort in mind with plenty of adjustment points to suit a range of body sizes. Aside from the usual strap adjustments, this backpack has an adjustable torso length, allowing the weight to sit just at the right spot. Importantly for me, this allows me to easily change the center of gravity depending on the load I have inside.
