I can't tell you how much weight this can handle, but it can handle a lot. Several full grown adults and more. What are you looking for it to hold?
Chris T : Are the Matthews apple boxes sanded down or left pretty raw?JULES M : it's sanded down, but not fine grade to the point of a wooden spoon.KEITH H : They are good quality plywood so they are pretty smooth. The corners do seem to be sanded. You won't get splinters from them. Better quality than I expected.anthony l : Yes they are well sanded and smooth. You should try one of the AG Apple boxes , they are super smooth and the thick handle feels better when you carry them . Both are very strong and I use them for a variety of shooting poses, sitting ,and stabilization .ROBERT B : Finish is not rough. Fine to sit on or lean against. Some folks do sand off the matthews logo on both sides of the box but nothing that can't be easily removed in post.CANDICE H : I don't think there is a finish on them, but they are really smooth.

I've never hesitated putting big guys on it.BOB W : It appears to be 9-ply 15/32".ROBERT B : Julie, I measure 1/2 inch. Plenty strong if that is your concern. It multi tasks as a posing stool as well as a box to raise a foot when subject is seated or standing. More than just something to stand on. Also handy to get to high shelves. Don't have to open and set up a ladder to get to higher shelves.

Great studio accessory

It looked pretty much like the photos, but we ended up staining it to a dark wood. I went over 30 yrs of shooting not needing one , but my wife felt our new studio would be complete with having a set of them. I immediately found uses for them. From elevating video monitors, to using them for sitting or standing on during a model shoot, to making an extra surface space to set stuff down on, I?m sure there will be a hundred other uses!

It's a BOX!!!!

Sturdy, nice color, doesn't break when I stand on it. Doesn't break when I stand on it holding a fish bowl. The fish bowl, however, I stood on it. Will need a new fish bowl. But won't need a new apple box.

Needs Some Improvement

These apple boxes are basically well built. There are few things that need to done. The edges and corners need to be rounded-off. The boxes need to painted a neutral gray. Other than those two isses the boxes work fine.
