Very difficult to focus due to short working distance; otherwise, good image detail.

The lens is hard to work with but if you know what you are doing or have experience working with manual lens, you're gold. For the price, this is the best option out there. Use it with decent camera and tons of light/flash and you'll get outstanding results. Good purchase!

There is a learning curve with this lens, you need lot of light, balance to take sharp picture. Since I have not completed all the I wanted to get going with this lens, but I feel this has good potential. Not sure I will go commercial with this lens though given the above mentioned aspects you have to take care of, which is slowing me down. So far I like it.

I think this is going to be a great lens. It's solidly built and from everything I read it is close in quality to some of the other super macros, and for the price I couldn't pass it up. But it is my first one, and I am still learning to take photos. I'm not having trouble with the lighting because I was anticipating, but I don't suspect it's going to be a good lens to take pictures of live insects unless they really, really like you.

Amazingly crisp lens if you know how to shoot macro. I have done some great stacked shots with this and strongly suggest to anyone. Just know the objective lens can unscrew which will damage your aperture.

Like any manual lens, it’s tricky to use, so YMMV. Build is solid, everything moves smoothly. The diaphragm only has three blades, so bokeh is triangle-shaped. I don’t mind, others might. The lens cap is teeny tiny; I highly recommend attaching a tether. This lens works best on rails in a controlled environment. It’s challenging, but a lot of fun.

Great little lens! Didn't work for what I needed it for, but a great addition to your kit. Has a nice weight to it despite the size. I wanted it for some product photos, but I couldn't even get one 16mm dice in the frame, only one edge of a number.

Fun lens, but takes some time and patience to use properly

Part of this is “on me”, but I expected a bit more minimum working distance. As it is, I’ve gotten nothing useful from this lens: It’s almost touching the object when focused to 1:1. No way to provide supplemental lighting.

Much like other users, my opinion matches other experiences. Feels rugged. It has to be used on manual with all cameras as the lens does not have sensors to communicate with the camera. Also the lens requires a lot of light. It’s a lens for long exposures, high ISO or perfect sunlight. Not always available. I am pleased with the results. It’s a superb little macro than can achieve what regular zoom macro lenses cant.

Still testing this lens. Takes a little getting used to as the depth of field is very shallow, as expected, (see photo) and you have to get in close to your subject. Make sure you have plenty of light. I use the small led panels to illuminate my subjects. Also you will not be able to hand hold this lens. Overall a great little lens for the money.

I haven't quite mastered this lens but I like what I see. I finally put it on a tripod and it worked much better. Nice lens for the price.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this lens given the reasonable price but decided to take a chance. I have a 100 mm Tokina macro lens but wanted something "super macro" which is hard to find for Nikon unless you use extension tubes and other techniques. This Mitakon lens seems to be well made and works quite well (much better than I thought it would). Several things to keep in mind though; you have to get very close to the object to get focus and you need to be able to get a lot of light on the subject (especially as the f-stop goes up). I took some single shots as well as focus stacked shots and am quite pleased with the results (see photos). I recommend this lens, just keep in mind what you are getting, it works very well for the purpose.
