I've been photographing professionally for 40yrs now. Back in the days of film photography most of us trusted the name Metz for it's superior quality. When I went digital I first went with a Canon 540 unit which was a fine flash however I returned to Metz. Now this flash is very user friendly and powerful and I own two of them, Like many others have already stated, the downside of the unit is of course the battery life with 4 double A batteries. I shoot with the Canon 5d Mark 111 so I do have other option on the camera's menu to work with,.If I may, if you shoot with the 5D camera, you might like to know that you can shoot with either the AF or the AF-1 flash. Simply put you can shoot the Metz 44 AF Nikon flash on this canon camera My only hope is for Metz would offer an external power supply set up much like their flash units of days gone by.

powerful, well built flash at a very good price point. best as a remote fill and in close focus situations. sluggish recycle may be an issue. overall a great add to the bag.
