Questions & Answers

Stephen B : Can this be used with a Mecablitz 70 MZ-5 and a Canon EOS 1Ds camera to obtain TTL flash metering?R A B : I use the Metz SCA-3102 with the Metz 76MZ-5 Digital with a Canon 1Ds Mark III and Canon 5 Mark II. It works fine with both cameras.ELOY R : Yes, mine Works with severas of my Metz's flashesGILBERT F : Not sure. I used it on a Metz 54 MZ-4i with a Canon Xsi (450d) and works great. One odd thing was this: when I set the flash unit to "TTL" it continued to act like "manual" mode. When I changed it to "Auto" it worked like a champ. At times, it's still a little too bright on manual. Additionally, one short coiled flash sync cord works great on "Auto" but another long straight cord one I have works on "Manual" only.
CARROLL M : I've heard from Metz that the only way my older flash can be used with the newer cameras is to use a PC cord connection. Problem is, my Rebel XT doesn't have a PC connection. Is there a hot-shoe adapter that adds that function?JAMES M : Yes Carroll there is, Dot Line Corp has a hot-shoe to PC adaptor.RANDAL P : Yes. Search "hot shoe pc" and I am sure you will get plenty of options. Good luck!CATHERINE G : Yes, there are many aftermarket adapters that will add this function. Fortunately, this is one instance where a product that's many years in the past will work just fine. I'd suggest perusing any used camera stores in your area and/or 'the world's biggest garage sale' site.ANDREW R : The reason Metz may be telling that you need to trigger your older flash from a PC connection is that many older (pre-digital) flash units can damage the electronics in your camera when triggered via the hot shoe. We do carry hot shoe to PC adapters ( <a href="http://www.adorama.com/FAPC15.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/FAPC15.html</a> ) , but you will not be able to mount your flash directly to your camera when in use. A Safe-Sync adapter ( <a href="http://www.adorama.com/FPHSS.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/FPHSS.html</a> ) may offer better protection and still allow you to mount your flash to your camera.
CARROLL M : I have an Agfatronic 643CS flash unit (originally from the mid '80s), with the SCA-310 adapter for my Canon EOS Rebel K2 film camera. I now have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. Will this adapter, with the appropriate cable, allow me to use my Agfatronic flash unit with the Digital Rebel?JAMES S : I don't know. I think you should check with a local outlet for advice before you buy something you may not be able to use.CATHERINE G : I think this is a question better answered by Metz customer support. My first instinct, however, is to say 'no', because there's enough of a difference between the automatics of film and digital cameras from such a wide age spread to make life difficult.RANDAL P : I would call Metz USA (Manfrotto Distribution) at (210) 818-9500 and ask for their technical desk. They have always been very helpful to me...

Easy switch from Nikon to Canon

When I used a camera that used Nikon technology, I aquired a Metz flash that I became accustomed to using and like very much. When I switched to Canon EOS, I wanted to dedicate the flash to my camera. The Metz SCA-3102 made the change very easy. Now, I can use the TTL convenience of both the camera and the flash combined.

It's what I ordered, but not what I need

I was not aware that the M5 version would not work with my older model Canon or that Canon makes several versions that work with different groups of EOS cameras.

Add SCA 3000C

I bought this adapter to support connection between 60CT 4 and 5 D MII, tried at the first beginning and didn't work . Finally after some research , found out that I need to buy SCA 3000C to make it work. Indeed, works great .... No TTL function though !

Works great.

Works as described, also works with older flashes(40-MZ1,3) in auto mode to transfer ISO, aperture and focal length data.
