About Marantz PMD661

The Marantz PMD661 MKII is a professional stereo field recorder that offers recording, playback, editing and security features in a handheld package. Like its predecessors the PMD660 and the PMD661, the PMD661 MKII incorporates a host of new features and advancements.

New security features have been added to the MKII to help keep your device and your recordings safe from unauthorized access. Menu locking and passcode protection keeps recorder usage restricted. File encryption allows you to lock specific .WAV or .MP3 files and passcode protect them. Encrypted files can only be played back on the PMD661 MKII itself or the included PMD Mark Editor software. These security features may be useful in law enforcement, court recording, surveillance and government applications. Other new features include the linear retake record function, which allows for quick retake recordings on-the-fly and the SD card check feature which allows you to easily check the compatibility of a particular SD card type.

In addition to these new features, the PMD661 MKII offers the full gamut of legacy features including on-board microphones, dual XLR inputs to connect external mics and 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. You can also use the S/PDIF digital or 3.5mm mini line input to connect other audio sources. Audio files can be recorded as WAV or MP3 at rates up to 24-bit/96kHz and files can be transferred to your computer via the USB 2.0 port.

Marantz PMD661 Features

  • Device Passcode Protection: The PMD661 MKII can be locked and passcode protected to prevent unauthorized usage
  • Audio File Encryption: .MP3 files can be encrypted to .MPS files and .WAV files encrypted to .WAS files which utilize a 4 digit passcode protection feature
  • Linear Retake Record Function: Retake record function allows you go back though the previously recorded audio to set a new record start point and retake a specific section of the recording
  • SD Card Check Compatibility Feature: 'SD Card Check' function quickly checks the compatibility of an SD card when inserted. Useful for checking a particular type of SD card prior to buying to make sure the card is compatible
  • High-Quality Recording: Record stereo or mono WAV or MP3 files at rates up to 24-bit/96kHz
  • Input Options: Record audio via the built-in microphones, as well as the dual mic/line XLR inputs. The XLR jacks provide +48V phantom power for use with condenser mics. S/PDIF digital and 3.5mm mini line inputs are also provided
  • Output Options: Monitor recordings via the built-in stereo speakers or the 1/4" headphone jack. You can also use the stereo RCA line outputs to connect to a mixer or speakers
  • On-Board Editing: Built-in Copy Segment and File Divide functions provide editing options in the field without the use of a computer
  • Computer Integration: The USB 2.0 port lets you easily transfer audio to a computer, while the included PMD Mark Editor software lets you edit your files
