GS108Tv2 Managed Switch

Product does a nice inexpensive job for a managed switch. Instruction manual is indepth and well documented; however would be nice for a section to give case and best usage info would be helpful for the less technical as some of the options need little better definition. All-in-all would buy again. Java plugin works with IE but via Switch View it doesn't for EDGE.

Good features for a low price.

I got this switch for it's high end features at a very decent price. The switch seems great, high quality. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because there web interface settings are a little criptic.

Great PD switch

Needed a gigabit switch for an in-wall patch panel and wanted to get rid of the cord dangling down the wall. This being PD made it super simple. Have had it installed for about a week or so with no issues. Excellent management capabilities as well.

One of the best purchases

I've owned this product for 4 years and it is still doing great. I bought it to use link aggregation with my NAS and the extra speed totally justifies the added price compared to an unmanaged switch.

Replacing NETGEAR products

This particular product pushed me to switch over all of my networking hardware to Ubiquity and its family of AP, switches, and security gateways. There is a significantly noticeable difference in performance and value. I've used NETGEAR router products for years. This was the first managed switch I purchased. I found the interface and configuration of my network required that I work around how the product is configured and its software limitations.

Professional features at an excellent pricepoint.

I got the GS108T smart switch mainly to improve security and performance of my home network. After reading up on all the features, I was impressed with how easy it was to set up on my mostly consumer-grade network hardware. Even though it took a few tries and some googling to get the advanced features set up right, it will still work fine as a ?dumb? switch right out of the box on factory settings. There are much cheaper ?dumb? switches out there - but if you operate a SOHO network and are security-minded, or even if you?re a hobbyist who just likes to network all of your appliances together like myself, I would highly recommend this switch. It provides tons of functionality at a very reasonable price, and the compact form factor also fits nicely on a small desk or cabinet.

Works Great setup a little complex

I was using a GS108TV1 before getting this GS108TV2. My first idea was to go to the V3 unit, but it didn't support 802.3ad LAG, so I purchased this unit. In setting up 802.3ad I had to do some research beyond the user manual to understand the options I needed to select. A table in the user manual listing the configuration for 802.3ad would have helped. I was able to get it working and it is working fabulously!

More than most, it is a cost effective solution

I have a high data throughput requirement, the need to segment groups and an absolute necessity to aggregate ports and send traffic to data servers on-site. As a recently retired Senior Network Engineer and CCNP, I of course wanted to have L3 type gear, but the budget didn't allow for the cost. So, I did some research and although 3 makers of switches came close, this little guys beat 'em in just about every area I could think of. I did my research by actually buying and running these things through real 'live' testing. I am thrilled at the port aggregation results, especially when using these in pairs, or connecting to another Netgear 'managed, L2 or L3 product'. At the risk of being a 'master of the obvious', it really Does Matter that you use the same linage of products because one of the most disappointing thing I found was that dissimilar products, even though conforming to the "same" RFC's, did not necessarily play well together or they managed to play well, but at reduced rates as opposed to having say 2 GS108Tv2 at each end of the managed connection, (upstream or downstream connection. I am taking full advantage of the nice features that avail themselves; VLAN's, LAG, and Qos, (as many policies as 30-40!). The best thing I have found is that Netgear GS108T's, GS110T's, (well the ProSAFE type gear) all perform LACP extremely well. You can get dissimilar products to do LAG, we used to call it 'trunking' in my world and short of stepping up to a Cisco-type environment and it's painful cost, is to purchase gear like the GS108Tv2. Now, there are a couple of things that make this thing a bit 'hinky'. The biggest thing that I found was that you had better make sure that all of the ports you are connecting to trunk upstream have the same speed and duplexing settings, otherwise, lights don't blink quite right ;-0, best to set everything to 'auto-negotiate' Secondly, if using DHCP, it does not like being on the same network as another DHCP server, even if you have made sure that the addresses it gives out are not overlapping and you are not on the same VLAN. When this happens, the switch repeatedly reboots itself, (rather than just shutting off the port where the problem comes from, which is what I am used to...). All-in-all, it's a winner in my book. There are a lot of things I did not look at, but if other features work the same way that ones do that I AM using, well even more reason to seriously consider this, or any of the ProSAFE l2 managed switch.

Great Switch

By Dr M.

This is a powerhouse switch in a small package. This is one of many I have purchased for my company?s network to help us move into the 10G world.

Joining Netgear's family of Gigabit Smart Switches with web-based management, this 8-port Gigabit switch is high on value and capability. With 8 x 10/100/1000 Mbps ports and support for Jumbo frames, capable of powering 2000 Mbps of data throughput in full-duplex mode per port, it is ideal for small offices or extensions and connects high-speed servers or power users. Ideal for combining 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps devices, it delivers automatic speed and full/half duplex sensing plus Auto Uplink on every port. In addition, an intuitive web-browser interface offers the simple Smart Switch management, making it easy to configure ports and set up port trunks, VLANs and traffic prioritization or monitor switch performance. Alternatively, use SNMP based software to manage your Smart Switch.

The GS108T is equipped with highly advanced features such as Access Control Lists (ACL), 802.1x port authentication, enhanced QoS, rate limiting and IGMP Snooping among others to provide a small and medium-sized business with a network that is geared for growth while providing scalability and reliability.
