With a fixed f/4.5 aperture across the focal range, this lens is well suited for professional sports, wildlife, birding, and journalism photographers.
Outstanding resolution and beautiful background blur
The Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS delivers incredible image quality across its entire zoom range. It features a constant F4.5 maximum aperture that stays perfectly consistent as you zoom in on your subject.
Advanced glass elements work together to give you extremely sharp details and a wonderfully soft background blur. You can even extend your reach up to 800mm using an optional teleconverter to get incredibly close to distant wildlife.
Lightning fast and precise autofocus
Catching fast moving sports and unpredictable animals is easier than ever. The lens uses four extreme dynamic linear motors to make focusing up to three times faster than previous models. Tracking performance gets a massive fifty percent boost so your subject stays perfectly clear. When paired with compatible cameras, it can easily handle reliable focus tracking at an astonishing 120 frames per second.
Lightweight and balanced design
Super telephoto lenses are usually heavy, but this model weighs just around 65 ounces. It is built with durable magnesium alloy parts to keep the overall weight down for comfortable shooting.
An inner zoom design minimizes shifts in the center of gravity while you zoom. This keeps the lens perfectly balanced in your hands to minimize fatigue during long photography sessions.
Rugged reliability for outdoor shooting
Bad weather will not stop you from getting the perfect outdoor shot. The entire lens features a dust and moisture resistant design to handle challenging environments.
The front glass element also includes a special fluorine coating. This protective layer prevents water, oil, and fingerprints from sticking, meaning you can easily wipe the surface clean in the field.

Compatible with teleconverters
The optional (not included) Sony FE 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters can be used together to retain full autofocus capabilities and extend focal lengths. With the 1.4x teleconverter, you’ll achieve effective focal lengths of 140-560mm at f/6.3, while the 2.0x teleconverter offers a 200-800mm focal length at f/9.
