In terms of sound quality, I truly believe this device is the best in its class-a real all-rounder. The audio performance is exceptional for everyday use. My only constructive feedback for the manufacturer is that I hope they add more line inputs in the future to improve versatility.

Mixture of feelings about this unit, it sounds good, but at this price point, it's the least you should expect! I liked it had Bluetooth however, I could only connect it to my phone, as you have to download an App before it will alow you to connect to it, so it won't connect to anything else, unless you use a wire, & at this price point in 2026 that's ridiculous, so I have to admit I've taken it back to Costco for a full refund.

I would like to start by saying I have always been a great fan of Sony, whether it be HiFi, TV or photographic equipment. In my experience, they are the best and I must own five or six of their products, but this product blew my socks off. Wow, what a speaker. Out of the box, this tower-style party speaker knocked my socks off and certainly impressed. The speaker stands almost 3 ft tall and is heavy (62 lbs) and looks as if it is going to be impossible to move around, but the handles around the top helped to make it simpler than I expected, and the castors meant I could pull it along, especially if the surfaces were flat. Using it just as a speaker and playing the music I enjoy listening to was a whole new level of sound quality and power that was new to me. This speaker, however, is made for bigger things. It really comes into its own as a party speaker, turning any space into a mini concert hall, with a thunderous bass you can feel. For gatherings in a community hall, for instance, holding a karaoke party, or watching movies with oomph, is really what it excels at. And the custom lighting adds a whole level of excitement to the experience. The two 6.35 mm inputs for microphone and guitar are easily accessible under a flap on the top of the party speaker. The level and echo effect controls are also located there. For the second input, the Bluetooth speaker also has a switch between microphone or guitar mode. There are very cool and neat fold-out microphone holders on both sides of the tower, but I have not been able to test the Sony ULTMIC1 wireless microphones. I have, however, set up a session in our garden for my guitar-playing friend and a group of others, and the sound quality was amazing. It appeared to spread the sound and enhanced the whole experience of listening to music in the outdoors. Everything about this product shouts good design and great quality of production, you almost feel the need to stoke it. The control panel of the ULT Tower 9AC takes up almost the entire top, with a clearly well laid out design. A proximity sensor even illuminates the function buttons when accessed. The largest of these bears the lettering "ULT", which lights up in a different colour depending on the operating status. The normal audio connections are discreetly located under a protective flap on the back of the bass reflex housing. The USB-A port supports the playback of memory sticks and turns the party speaker into a power bank for charging smart devices if required. It is possible to pair a couple of these speakers, and I can only imagine that the sound would then be epic. When it comes to using it as a speaker for the TV, I have not been able to work out how to get it to work with my Sony TV using the optical cable. I did, however, get it to work with Bluetooth, and the sound was wonderfully clear on the bass, satisfyingly deep. I doubt most people however would be happy to have a smart speaker this size sitting adjacent to their TV. My wife confirmed that as far as she was concerned this was the case. All in all, it's a product that impresses on so many different levels: it sounds fabulous, looks wonderful, and the quality of production is excellent and surprisingly good value for money. An on board battery would have been the icing on the cake. It really is a powerhouse party speaker, and if parties and even public events are your thing, I can wholeheartedly recommend this item.

This is extremely heavy. Two delivery guys carried the box to the house. Once out of the box there's a frame around the top acts as a handle, and there are two wheels on the rear edge just above the base to make it easier to move around. The ULT Tower 9AC is equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 and supports the SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs, which is nice to see. I would always suggest using LDAC playback. The improvement in sound quality using LDAC is immense. The ULT Tower 9 supports the Sony Sound Connect app. That told me a software update was needed. The app has a 10-band EQ with bands adjutable from 50Hz to 16kHz. The Sony ULT Tower 9 is built to party, LOUD. In particular, the bass, even without any of the ULT settings turned on this speaker has incredible heft. The speaker ships with a Toslink cable to connect a TV using its optical input. Thought it sounds fantastic, the ULT Tower 9 is too tall to place in front of my TV, so it can't stay in place. The Sony ULT Tower 9's combination of audio quality and features is hugely impressive. It's a bass-forward speaker but the bass doesn't swamp the treble or midrange. They are unusually well balanced and realistic.

First a word of warning ... make sure you know the size of what you are ordering !!! The Sony Tower 9AC really excels as a party speaker but it is no one trick poney. To give you some idea it took two delivery guys to carry it from the van into my house. Having assumed it might be a lot of packaging (which it was) I was still taken aback by the unpacked speaker. It is large, solid but with wheels and handles making it easy to move around. Plug it in, power it on and despite the size it operates just like any other bluetooth speaker. Once you link your mobile just make sure you have the volume turned down. When you start to experiment you quickly realise you are dealing with a beast. The 360 room filling sound is big, BOLD and hugely enjoyable. Even as a personal listening experience it really is quite different. The clear sound quality and be customised either by a button on the device or via the great Sony Sound Connect App. When stting it up for a family party it gave me the opportunity to turn the device into a real focal point by playing around with the flashing light sequencing. The speaker worked equally well for background listening while dining as it did for the main party going full tilt. It really provided room filling fun no matter the type of music. Just for fun the next day I connected the speaker up to my Sony TV using the supplied cable. I had no real plans to use it for this purpose and really was just trying it out. Wow !! Its here to stay. I have a degree of hearing loss and the enhanced volume/clarity the speaker brings really added to my viewing enjoyment. If you can find the space for this speaker it really an be a jack of all trades. Even if you've no power nearby it will run for hours on end with the built in rechargeable battery. I'm still experimenting with all the features and have ordered the Karaoke wireless microphones for the next family gathering for kids of all ages.

Another great party speaker from Sony. Well packaged but you might need some help. It's very heavy. At least it has built in wheels. Great sound quality even at high volume levels. Easy to set up and pair via Bluetooth. I used it at a wedding as guests were coming in and it got many compliments. The sound quality is surprisingly good. It's not just all muscle, it is capable of delicacy and precision too. I didn't test it with microphones but I wonder if used in a semi professional environment it might benefit from XLR inputs. Light effects are fine, if you like that kind of thing. Overall very good quality and excellent value for money.

However, perhaps I might not be the intended market for this speaker because whilst it should be used for an all night rager of a party, I would prefer to use it for the surround sound or base speaker for the ultimate home cinema experience. However, you might convince me to use it for a karaoke party, but sadly no microphones as of yet. My Pro's for the boombox: It's a large piece of kit, it has a presence in room. It was easy to set up. It has a huge capability of being extremely loud. The simple display options on device are very easy to understand. There are different sound options for increased intensity using ULT settings Multiple types of connectivity to connect USB, Guitar, Fibre optic cable to attach to tv. Microphone holders, for the karaoke nights. And the Con's: It's a heavy machine, weighing in at 30KG. Although, this isn't too bad as it has wheels if you want to move it around. This is a powered device, and no battery option. Also, accompanying this is a very short power cable, so it's got to be near the plug. This is the same with the optic cable, it limits the distance of how far it can be away from the tv if you want to use it as a tv speaker. Overall, this speaker does what it says on the tin, it booms. If you want to be blown away, this certainly will do the job.

The ULT Tower truly is the ultimate party speaker. Not only does it look the part with dominating stature and flashing lights but it sounds incredible. Powerful enough to work as an actual bass amp (!!) that lets you play along with bluetooth songs. The lights are fully customisable and respond to the sound. They also cleverly and subtly indicate volume level. The ult button provides 2 different bass sound modes so you can really tailor the sound to your preference - I've found this is great when you take the speaker from inside to outside. Too often the bass is lost without the room acoustics, this is not the case with the ULT tower! The speaker looks like a little wheely bin and runs on a power cable. This is not a negative at all as it's become affectionately known as the party bin! The wheels make it easy to manoeuvre as it is rather heavy (but then it does have a giant X-balanced speaker, 2 mid range speakers and 4 tweeters built into it!) The tower works just as well as an all immersive tv speaker as it does for your music and karaoke needs. The intelligent "Sound Field Optimisation" detects ambient noise and unwanted sound to finely tune the output to suit the environment. All in all, this speaker is the absolute best!

Unboxing was a breeze - no clutter or confusion, just plug in power cable. Setup took barely a few minutes. Connect via Bluetooth, and you're off. The Sony Sony Sound Connect app makes fine-tuning easy too, there's a DJ mode which allows effects and a Graphic Equaliser to adjust to your liking. The bass is outstanding, it will blow you away! Seriously deep and punchy. If you're a bass lover, the ULT button gives two settings depending on the level required. When paired up to a Tablet, you've got a Karaoke Machine, plug in a Mic or two, great fun and so easy! It's perfect for parties! The multi coloured light effects are very cool and sync to the music! Standing 36" high this speaker is big, weighing more than 30kg, it is heavy & is very loud. Bass sound is amazing. Construction is mostly high impact plastic & this speaker feels very strong & well built, built in grab handles are a great help when moving this speaker about, also the addition of two captive wheels at the rear of the speaker makes moving this speaker around simple & effortless. Connectivity is either by Optical cable (supplied) or via wireless Bluetooth 5.3. Pairing to my smart phone was simple but installing the Sony Connect App releases the full potential of this speaker, there are many options within the app to tailor the sound to your liking. 360 audio is available through the Sony Connect app. Also included is a USB type A port rated at 5v - 1.5A for charging your phone or other device, I found this very handy. A full rich bass sound is the best feature of this speaker, simply awesome with no noticeable distortion across the entire frequency range with beautiful crisp audio. All the speaker controls are adjustable without the app via the top control panel. These controls are of the touch type. Built in disco party lights are also another feature. Two microphone inputs are provided for DJ or Karaoke use which is a great addition to the ULT 9AC party speaker. Highly recommended.

Pros: The sound from this is incredible. Huge amount of bass, very clear mid-tones and crisp treble. I didn't expect the sound quality it produces, I was expecting a bass biased sound only. When you press the ULT button...prepare yourself. The build quality is superb (it has to be, due to the weight). It seems as if it will survive almost anything. Also, having the wheels is a perfect design. They are placed perfectly so there is no interference once the speaker is in place. The lighting is great, hits the beats much better than other models. Lights up the room/patio brilliantly. Enough controls on the unit itself and many more on the app (equaliser, extended lighting controls and more) Cons: The weight - If you need to move it up/down stairs a lot (apx. 28kg). A longer power cable would be better to use it outside (unless you have outside power). Your neighbours won't like you anymore :)
