A great lens with a very low distortion at 12mm, better than most! Great contrast, minimal chromatic aberration, very best flare resistance (I compared it to wide angle zooms costing twice as much and it leaves hem in the dust!). Takes a screw on filter, no need to spend money and endless labor to work around those bulging wide angle zoom front elements. Rubber seal around the mount keeps water and dirt out. The best!

This review is to help anyone out there researching wide angle lenses, like I did, before choosing this one. My 12-24mm is paired with a D500 and used for landscapes. There are so many lenses and so many brands in which to choose, it is difficult to decide. You likely won’t regret purchasing this lens. Well built, light to pack for a hike and very sharp results. What’s not to love?

This lens opens new experiences. Can't imagine which can be a better wide zoom for DX Nikons. At 18-36mm covers great wide angle range.

The lense is very solid and mine performs well with being sharp with excellent contrast in the color rendition. Post processing is needed to capture the full capability of the lense. I use DXO and it correct the distortion from being a wide angle in close quarters.

I needed a wide angle lens for landscape photography, and read some good things about this lens. I couldn't afford the $1000 price tag, so I opted for a used lens with an E+ rating. I have to say I couldn't be happier! It looks and feels like a brand new lens (with minor scratches on the lens cap, but that doesn't affect photo quality so no big deal). This is more of a review on buying used lenses. E+ and above is pretty much brand new quality for WAY less money!!! I'm not hesitant to buy used lenses from Adorama anymore! :) Super happy with this lens!

Bought it used from Adorama with a Tiffen UV filter for around $Au699 (including shipping to Australia). It was a toss-up between the Nikon 12-24 and 10-24 (and the Tokina 11-16) but ended up going with the 12-24 after lots and lots of web research. Lens was described as in demo condition - and that was an accurate description. In really good shape. Ordered Tuesday afternoon, turned up Friday morning...from New York to Australia! Gotta love the Internet! The 18-105 that came with my D7000 is a nice lens but not quite wide enough. The 12-24 is a useful addition, particularly for travel and landscapes.

I recently entered the digital photo world after decades of extensive film equipment experience (elaborate 35mm and medium format systems). I recently used this lens with a Nikon D90 to take photos at the Hill Air Force Base Aerospace Museum. I adjusted the ISO to 1600, because of the low light, and fired away. The performance of this lens was spectacular (color rendition, low distortion, sharp as a tack, fast focusing, and excellent zoom range). I studied all available product reviews about lenses of this type. This lens was always rated above the others and my experience with the lens supports this view. It's perfect for the wide-angle photography environment that I operate in. If you're considering this lens, don't hesitate to buy.

I picked this up used - much cheaper the newer, said-to-be-better 10-24mm. Haven't really compared with [*] 10-24, but my Nikon are all made in either Japan or Thailand and I didn't want to change it now. Since DX body is just my spare body, I would not use this so extensively anyway. I am totally happy.

This is a very high quality wide zoom. It has good sharpness and the advantage of a consistent wide aperture. Being a wide only zoom however does limit it's usefulness. Make sure you really need a wide only zoom before buying. My "bread and butter" lens is the Nikon 16-85/3.5-5.6 zoom. This lens is very close my ideal lens and goes with me everywhere.

I'm a Realtor and bought this lens to shoot the interior of homes for myself and other Realtors. Also, works well on exteriors where there's no way to grab the shot with another lens. Internal focus, minimum distortion (easily corrected in seconds with software), great optics for catching details. Worth every penny I spent. It's paid for itself very quickly. Also great for creative and fun shots with that incredible depth of field. Heavy of course, lots of glass, professional quality DX lens.

Like the lens for it's wide zoom, and F/4 opening, but images are soft and you have to sharpin them alot. Sent the lens to nikon for that problem, but repair said lens was fine.

This is my go to lens for landscape photography. It is fast, produces wonderful color and is very sharp. I use it on a Nikon D300 body and it gives me a very wide view at 12mm and a great standard wide view at 24mm.

The 12-24 f4 zoom is an excellent super wide zoom. Mine has survived 700+ degree fire rooms as well as high humidity while shooting in a fire training building. I can't say enough for how well this lens has held up under the harshest conditions imaginable. I use this on my D200 rather than my D300 in case the whole package goes up in flames. I'm sure the lens would survive though I don't believe the D200 would.

I loved the old 20-35mm for film cameras. When I switched to digital I was at a loss for there were not any wide lens! 20mm is a third of my vision, and there wasn't anything. Soon after my switch the 12-24mm came out to supply this need. Granted it is an f4, but the competition lens were variable aperture of f4-5.6, horrible. This lens is sharp. Granted there are now other choices, but this range works wonderful for me!

I use this lens all the time for basic interior and exterior architectural shots. Minimal barrel distortion and chromatic aberration, not a tilt shift, but next best thing for DX sensor.

I like the lens - it serves me well, but it isn't the "best" Nikon lens I have. I use this one for interior shots of hotels, homes, etc. Prior to getting a full frame camera I used the 12-24 (equal to 18-36mm), I believe that lens focal length was more useful. If I were to buy a new lens today I think I would go for the 16-35mm f.4 - for my style of photography (architecture and event) this lens would be better. One fault of the 14-24 - too much distortion at 14mm - fine at 18 through 24.

This is an excellent lens for DSLR video, especially in a situation where depth of field is a plus. It is sharp from edge to edge and provides a wide view without serious barrel distortion. It's also a fine lens for making stills in tight quarters on a DX body. The light weight balances well on a d300s or d7000 body. The faster 14~28 f 2.8 lens is better suited for the heavier D3.

So, you want to buy a great wide angle lens and you're confused as to which one to buy? Since I'm a landscape photographer and owned and tried out several wide angle lenses, such as the Sigma 10-20, Tokina 12-24, Canon 17-40, Pentax 14mm prime and other wide angle lenses, I have finally found the lens I am happy with and that would be the Nikon 12-24. It's just extremely sharp and at F7.1 an A+ I just don't want soft edges in my photos and at 12-24mm this lens can compete with the best. Just in case you need a little more zoom this lens gives it to you. Autofocus is extremely accurate and CA is not a significant problem. When I first bought the lens, I was worried. Did I blow it again. And the answer is a most definite...No!

This is a superb wide-angle lens for use on DX cameras, in my case a D50 and D80. I have captured stellar images in the Alps, Sierra Nevadas, Tetons, Grand Canyon, and numerous other wilderness areas with this lens. A slim circular polarizer lives on it and together they produce sharp, high quality images. The 12-24 provides me with a lot of freedom to capture large landscapes. I've used this lens in adverse conditions (rain, snow, sleet, hail, sand, dirty fingers, ...) for over 4 years and it's performed flawlessly. Inevitably, after each trip, I have a few photos that I elect to print as 20x30s and frame. The people at the photo store and the frame place are always blown away by the images.

is a good lens but overpriced in a lot of place (900-1000) i got mine for only 650 if u love landscape or creative picture you going to love this lens It's very sharp at the 18-24mm, be careful when u using the 12-15mm and don't set the aperture go lower than f10
