The Nikon 18-300mm will fit the d7000. It is a great lens with a lot of versatility from wide angle to telephoto. It isn't the fastest lens for each focal point although for the range it provides it is a very good versatile "all in one" lens. Usually my go to lens when I am traveling and don't want to carry too many lens on me.PAUL K : Yes. I keep it on my D7100 and it is a great lens that truely does it all. Although it is a little heavy it avoids having to carry several lenses around so overall it saves weight. It also avoids having to change lenses all the time so helps avoid getting dust inside the camera. In my experience, the lenses with variable f stops are extending, while the zoom lenses with a constant stop are internal. This is a good overall lense and very versatile, as long as you don't need to shoot in low lighting.PEGGY G : It is an extending barrel. It is a bit heavy, but it has such a fantastic range, that I generally have it on the camera all the time, unless I know what I'm shooting needs my favorite lens, the Nikon 10-24mm. As you probably know, the D7100 is a DX formatted camera, thus the effective range for this lens is 27mm- 450mm equivalent on a FX camera. Macro focus at up to 300mm (450mm on our D7100s) is incredible and the range of a medium wide 27mm to medium telephoto 450mm prevents me from having to change lenses, eliminating all dust contamination.
The filters are clear and sharp, and i use the polarizer on all sunny days.
