On my very first outing with this lens, it proved so disappointing that I sent it back. Auto-focus, when it worked, was extremely slow. And sometimes, seemingly when pointed at mid-distance, it wouldn't focus at all. I thought there was something wrong with my camera. Then I realized it had to be the lens. Further tests when I got home confirmed it. This was a refurbished lens, refurbed by Nikon to factory specs. If that's true, I suggest you stay away from this lens.

This is a pretty awesome all-purpose zoom lens that has worked great for me (being a beginner on a small budget). I wanted something that would cover all manner of projects - from portraits to real estate to low light. The cons are definitely in the auto focus and the lack of sharpness that comes from that...HOWEVER - it has been a wonderful day to day lens for me that has helped me gain the confidence I needed to start moving forward with more pricey equipment.

Understanding that we are talking, for the price: This is a very good lens. I have purchased other refurbished items from Adorama and have never had a problem. They are like new! I'd buy this lens again, and I will buy from Adorama again. This lens is good as a kick around, everyday lens. It is a good starter as well.

Sample images of my 18-55mm attached herewith. I am still in the process of learning night photography and long exposure and these are what ive got for now. One thing, it is so weightless that i can bring anywhere I go even at work because I used to go for a shoot after work whenever stress comes out. So handy.

Aside from the fact that all digital devices eventually fail, this lens is only as good as your photography skills. Of course there are faster lenses, and better primes but this lens will serve your GENERAL needs well. Not every lens you own needs to be top of the line...

I bought this lens to replace my broken kit lens that came with my D7000. While this lens lacks the VR the original has, it is in every other way its equal. Light, compact, autofocus, affordable, and the same apertures as the more expensive version. If you must have VR, then get that one; if not, this lens will fill the bill.

Good starter lens (hence the reason it comes with most entry-level/enthusiast DSLRs from Nikon). Good for general photography (ie. daily use like family events or anything else you'd normally use a point-and-shoot for). I would recommend to enthusiasts or serious hobby photographers to get some primes as well (perhaps a nice 50mm prime lens). I consider this just an average lens, good at general stuff, but not very good if you want to landscapes, portraits or anything in a particular area. Decent walk-around lens or beginner lens (you can get some great photos out of this lens, but usually that takes some skill and depends on the body it's attached to to an extent).

Don't be discouraged by this lens just because it's a kit lens, for entry-level camera. As far as Resolution and Contrast goes... From 18-35mm from the center, to over half way to the edges...this is actually one of Nikons better DX lenses. [Excellent performer] in that range, before it falls off, and even THEN, it's not to shabby. It won't do you any good once the sun sets. But for the price. I'd buy another one, when mine gives out. Happy Shooting !!

I purchased a refurbished lens and am very well pleased with it. It appeared to be brand new when I unboxed the lens. The auto focus is so quiet I had to double check to make sure it was working! The lens is very sharp and I have not noticed any problems with the quality of the images it produces. I use it with my D7100 which was also purchased refurbished.

Bought this lens to go with my new D7100 which I also purchased refurb from Adorama. The service was great andI couldn't be happier about this purchase. The lens is very quck and silent as others have said. The focus appears very good and the quality of the prints is all I could ask for from a non-pro zoom. I wiil not hesitate to purchas other factory refurbished lens from Adorama! The lense came in its own box and was well packaged. It looks like a brand new lens.

I used to have Canon all my life and thought to give Nikon a chance when I needed DSLR. I bought D5100 with this lens with the deal that saved $50. I hardly used this camera for its first year and when I needed this camera to capture birthday moments of my kids, this camera failed. The lens would simply not move in auto mode. May be the motor system inside the lens failed. The only way it worked was in manual mode. Now Nikon's tech support is another nightmare to deal with due to their limited tech support and servicing locations. Only 2 location (one in east coast and another in west coast) for all repairs and issues!!! For the price I spent, I simply wished reliable and decent camera with lens to last. Now I am reluctant to buy another lens. May be it will have same fate? Also today's phone camera being so handy and better at pictures and videos who really needs these expensive camera any ways.

I use this lens for portraits, shots of rooms and big outdoor shots. The lens focuses fast and well with color that is pretty spot on. Like any "budget" lens you'd like it a hair sharper, but most people who see my pictures still say, "Wow!"

Auto-focus suddenly stopped working. I have had this lens less than 90 days. I know the AF-S DX 18-55mm lens is faulty because there are no problems using my Nikkor DX AFS 55-200 with my D3200. Now I have the hassle of filing a warranty claim and shipping the lens.

The lens was being used on a Nikon D80. I bought this to serve as an all around events tool...family gatherings, outdoor adventures, auction photos. The motor is a little noisy when focusing, and sometimes the VR jitters, but ultimately catches the focal point. I liked using a reverse mount macro lens ring with this lens. The lens was light-weight, fast, and the results were pretty clear. I sold it when I upgraded to the Nikon D800E, since I didn't want DX format photos anymore. My next purchase will be a Nikon VR II...probably the 70-200. I'm trying not to be a lens hoarder, so I'll only purchase one or two premium multi-task lenses from this point on.

Ease of use and installing or removing was a click. Wanted DSLR that wife could learn on and I could enjoy using also. This has done every thing we wanted.

me resulta un poco incomodo el hecho de que no cuente con graduación en la zona de enfoque, sobretodo en fotografías de larga exposición nocturna

Have had this lense for about a year now but have only used it for a couple of months at most. It came with my d5100 that I still currently use but was easily replaced by my 50mm 1.8 almost immediately. That being said it's not a bad lense at all. For the price you can't go wrong. The quality is there and it covers a good range for family and Facebook type photography. I wouldn't recommend buying the lense itself for the reason that you can save and get a better lense for a little more money.

Lens is used for general photography. Too bad it doesn't have a longer range, but for mostly close-up and indoor use it's fine. As usual with Nikon products, even the refurbished ones are fine. Excellent sharpness at both ends of the range.

The product arrived broken, and when I returned it and requested a replacement, was told they did not have another in stock and would not restock it.
