The Nikkor 19 f/4 PC ED is simply the best offering from Nikon

This lens is something extraordinary and requires some skill and patience to master. Having said that, if you are familiar/used to/interested in tilt shift lenses, this masterpiece from Nikon/Nikkor is it! Please look no further! While attending a photo workshop early 2021, I was casually offered to try out our instructor's copy of this lens. He simply asked me if I wanted to try his and then handed me his lens while asking me to try not to drop it? I took two photographs with this lens and that was it! Drove home and ordered my own copy! While I also own a large collection of wide angel lenses including Nikkor's Z 14-24 f/2.8 S, Zeiss's Milvus 15, 18, and 21mm f2.8, and other Nikon/Nikkor lenses, this lens stands out with its different capabilities, which of course makes it unique. Additionally, the Nikon/Nikkor 19mm f/4 PC-E has absolutely no distortion whatsoever, which is most impressive. This is my favorite lens from Nikkor/Nikon ever made! I photograph landscape and some cityscape mostly and this lens offers everything you'd ever want! Tilt and shift together or on their own and you will get stunning images! It is simple the one of finest Nikon/Nikkor landscape/architecture lenses ever!

Nikon 19mm Shift-Tilt Lens

This is a wonderful and sharp, albeit expensive, lens. At 19mm, I am better able to photograph most skyscrapers in their entirety, this being a little more difficult with the 24mm shift-tilt lens. As it is manual when in shift-tilt mode, one has to focus very carefully, and failure to do so by relying on the infinity setting could result in out of focus images. The lens certainly helps overcome the keystone effect of converging verticals, but I do find that I need to adjust the perspective very slightly in post-procesing. I do not believe that this is a problem with the lens, but it is difficult to get all verticals set to perfection. A tripod is recommended, if one has the time, but if rushed, use the virtual horizon on your camera for shift, and focus peaking in live view for tilt. Also, be careful where you take the lens, as there is no reasonably priced filter for protection.

PC Nikkor 19mm f/4E ED Lens, Great for Architecture and Landscape Photography.

I have been using a PC-E Nikkor 24mm 1:3.5D lens for several years -- and have always loved the image quality and tilt/shift capabilities -- but have sometimes been frustrated with not having the ability to rotate the shift and tilt axes independently. The PC Nikkor 19mm f/4E ED lens solves the tilt vs shift axis problem, while retaining the excellent image quality, even shooting wide open, that you'd expect from a Nikkor gold-band lens. Also, being a bit wider angle is an added benefit, particularly when used for architectural applications. I've also found the PC (perspective control) lenses to be great for landscape photography -- where the ability to tilt the lens focal plane to into the landscape allows the use of larger (even wide open) apertures, while still attaining depth of focus across the entire image. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with this lens.

Nearly perfect for the highest resolution camera bodies

I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. This is a nearly perfect T/S lens. The one thing to watch for, and can be very well corrected in post processing, is astigmatism at the extremes of the image circle when extreme tilts are used. That can be 98% cleaned up via Topaz Sharpen AI using the "Stabilize" option. Extreme shifts don't bring the astigmatic areas into the frame quite as much as the tilt does. This is a superb lens for stitched panoramas. When rotating the camera for the shots the pivot point is very close to the front of the lens.

My new favorite Nikon lens is just exquisite. Nothing but first class.

I have the 24mm PCE lens on board, and I have extremely happy with the results from the lens. However the 19mm E is the absolutely hands down the sharpest lens that I have ever purchased. This is an exceptional lens, and not a lens for every photographer. If you are interested in landscape and architecture photography is the lens, my friends. Expensive yes, however so is a first class ticket on an airplane. Think about it. This lens is worth the first-class price, for a first class photographic lens.

excellent product

this is the best Nikon tilt shift Lens. I own the full set of Nikon tilt shift lenses (4) and this is, by far, the best in this line. It is also the only one that has the tilt and shift movements independent than eachother, so there is no need to send this lens back to Nikon USA to ask for the modification of the factory setting, to align the tilt and shit on the same axis, as I had to do with my other 3 lenses on this line. Almost No vignette when mounted on a FUJI GFX Body (vignette only occurs when shifting at (or more than) 10 mm upwards or downwards)

The sharpest Nikon lens I own from corner to corner

This lens is sharp from corner to corner. It is very expensive but the right answer when the 24 mm f3,5 is not wider enough. It does not vignette even shifted to its Maximum and it is far better in this regard than this lens. The ability to rotate tilt and shiff in both directions is a must feature that Nikon should extend to the other tilt shift lenses. It will not replace my 24 mm f3,5 since for traveling issues, I still prefere this lens coupled with my 45 and 85 mm counterparts so that to carry less weight and bulk, as well as to be able to use 77 mm filters (ND and polarizer for cascades). The 19 mm f4 shines in dawn/dusks scenes.

The most expensive lens I own.. sharp, able to shoot in tight areas, very very little distortion & keeping visual perspective intact.

I have the 24mm pc-e but I needed what the canon had to offer 17mm tilt shift for tighter spaces, but I love the Nikon for its resolution & dynamic range & user interface. Lucky they introduced the 19mm PC-E it was really good timing. New & smart design. Lens feels solid, it has a coating which won’t allow dust to settle on. Now I can make images which were previously impossible.

What a piece of glass!

This lens is certainly not meant for everyone. But if you're the kind of photographer who needs it, you will be extremely happy with it. It is sharp as a new X-acto blade, all distortions have been designed out of it best I can tell, the build quality is A+, and the movements are smooth and decisive. Of course for $3400 you would hope for all these things, but it delivers in spades. Put this on a D810 and you'll think the 810 name means "8x10" (which I used to shoot with, btw). Couldn't be more pleased. The only "flaw" is the rotation lock is hard to find with your finger is the lens is shifted right. That and it does not work on many Nikon bodies.

Pricy but worth it

Being able to both shift and tilt along with the ability to rotate either is great. Image quality edge to edge is very good as well.

Nikon PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED, an ultra-wide-angle PC lens compatible with Nikon FX-format digital SLR cameras.

The PC NIKKOR series of lenses are lenses that support a shift function, with which the lens is moved parallel to the image plane, and a tilt function, with which the optical axis is tilted in relation to the image plane. These functions allow users to control perspective, correcting the distortion of subjects dependent upon camera angle, and bringing entire scenes and subjects with depth into focus (foreground to background).

19 mm focal length in FX/35mm format, the shortest among PC NIKKOR series lenses, provides an angle of view*2 equivalent to that generally used when shooting architecture and interiors with large- and medium-format cameras. Consequently, it will be familiar for, and its high maneuverability appreciated by, many professional photographers of architecture and interiors, in particular.

The PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED achieves superior resolution throughout the entire frame for extremely detailed rendering of images captured at its ultra-wide angle all the way to the extreme corners. Adoption of three ED glass elements reduces chromatic aberration, and two aspherical lens elements provide effective compensation for a variety of aberrations, including distortion and spherical aberration. In addition, the use of Nano Crystal Coat effectively reduces ghost and flare, even when light passes through the lens at an angle, for clear, sharp images. The superior optical performance made possible by these technologies and the latest optical design will maximize the power and capabilities of high-pixel-count digital SLR cameras.

In addition to the conventional rotation mechanism, a new "PC Rotation" mechanism, which increases the flexibility of perspective control, has been adopted with the PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED. This new mechanism allows users to freely set the way shift and tilt relate to one another from parallel to perpendicular, responding precisely to a variety of shooting intents. Further, operation with perspective control has been improved with a shift mechanism that can eliminate the need for lock operation and ensure smooth shift operation. What's more, Nikon's exclusive fluorine coat has been adopted for superior durability and resistance to dust, water, grease, and dirt.

The PC NIKKOR 19mm f/4E ED offers superior optical performance and the widest angle of view in the PC NIKKOR series of lenses. At the same time, it further expands possibilities for expression with perspective control. It stimulates photographers' creativity and supports unique forms of photographic expression with cityscape and landscape photography and the creation of fine art, all while responding precisely to the strict needs of professional architecture and interior photographers.

Nikon 19mm f/4E PC Features

  • A shift mechanism that supports smooth perspective control without the need for lock operation
  • "PC Rotation" mechanism that allows users to freely set the direction of shift and tilt operation from parallel to perpendicular to each other
  • Superior optical performance that begins with excellent resolution all the way to the edges of the frame, making the most of high-pixel-count digital SLR camera capabilities
  • Nano Crystal Coat, that enables sharp and clear images in which ghost and flare is effectively reduced with superior antireflection characteristics
  • Highly durable fluorine coat that effectively repels dust, water, grease, and dirt applied to the outer surface of the lens element at the extreme front of the lens
