I have owned a 24 f/2.8 since about 1970 and find it to be my "go-to" lens for wide angle shots where the perspective of an ultra-wide is not needed nor desired. Works well as a cityscape/landscape lens and as my "normal wide" for indoor shots or in crowds. The relatively fast f/2.8 speed lets me photograph in available darkness where no reasonable size and weight zoom lens could do. It has transitioned beautifully to my D600 and D800 bodies. Who needs auto-focus when you can zone focus this one or use the hyperfocal and just go, go, go. I love the compact size and light weight, especially versus big clunky zoom lenses. Can take it anywhere easily.

This one of Nikkor lenses everyone should have in their bag. This is a 35mm format lens that works well on DX format as well. Easy to use and lightweight with 52mm filter threads. A great distortion free wide angle f:2.8 fast lens and is also made in an AF and AF/D as well with the same optics. I always carry this lens with me everywhere I go and would give it a solid 4.5-5 for all shots.

Great depth of field. Faster than most AF lenses on the market. Better optics too. Have had this lens for 25 years. Using it on my new D3200. Love how the old lenses still fit the new digital cameras. Who needs auto focus with a lens like this?

I get this lens in used condition yet works flawlessly all the way. my impression this lens is lightweight and compact in size, high optical performance throghout the entire focusing range from a minimum distance of 0.3m to infinity.

I loved using this lens for much of my photography, especially when I was in tight or confined spaces. I also loved being able to set it to its hyperfocal setting and be able to shoot "hail Mary" style when doing crowd shots and get great results. During my photojournalism days, this was my standard lens. I still long for a lens like this and like how subjects are rendered in the resulting image. Its edge-to-edge sharpness was excellent and without too much distortion. Overall, it's a great lens to have in your bag because it's wide enough to get everybody without losing a lot on the ends or top/bottom. I couldn't have done without it in my daily work!

I was happy with this lens when I bought it 30+ years ago, and still love it now that I can use it on my new digital Nikon body
