I gave up on Sigma 35mm f1.4 after two copies had focus reliability issues on my D800. I gave a try on refurbished Nikon version instead. Even though it came in grey box - it looked like new when I got it, with manual, 90 day warranty, caps, and all. That's a big plus. No issues so far other than I had to dial quite high lens adjustment in my camera. Now works like a charm. I've read somewhere on FM forums that Adorama refurbished lenses don't have to be "previously broken" - "A refurb can also have simply been pulled from the production line if something appears faulty, or if it hasn't passed the final inspection. Most of the time it is a very minor issue that needs correcting, nevertheless, once it is pulled from the normal flow of production, it gets flagged as a refurbished model, so you may get a unit straight from the factory that has never been used." So it may as well be a new lens inspected by hand, by Nikon's technician. I have no problems with that. It was a good buy for me.

I have been using the 16-35mm lens for landscape and wanted something I could shoot with at night so I decided to try the 35mm first. I am so happy with the shots, everything is crisp and exactly how I picture it. The bokeh is incredible! Love this lens!

I purchased the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm 1:1.4G refurbished. Why not? As good as any "new" lens. I often find myself working in very low light situations with strobes being frowned upon: peformance, theatre, weddings, art galleries etc. At f/1.4 I was excited to use this lens for selective focus, low light and close up portraiture. My go-to lens in the past, for low light portraiture has been the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm 1:2.8G ED. The 24-70 often has problems auto focusing in low light situations where contrast may be low. I'd often have to take over manually to get what I needed and the moment would be lost. This 35mm 1:1.4 is remarkably quicker and spot on with auto-focus in low light and low contrast situations. I am extremely pleased with the quiet motor and wide angle. It remains attached to my D3s for my wide angle applications. It's quick, images are crisp, bokeh is superb, contrast and color are also remarkable. For video, the wide angle, short focal length, quiet motor and fast f/1:1.4 make it an extraordinary piece of gear for video in tight quarters such as parties or wedding receptions. Small problem with Chromatic Abberration... I found this to be a very odd result in such a celebrated lens. I am posting a sample photo along with this review. All in-focus subjects are flawless, however just beyond the depth of field, specifically when the sky or other blank surface is the backdrop, a chromatic aberration.. green in this case, frequently presents itself. This is easily removed/corrected in PhotoShop, but is indeed a problem and my reason for not giving this particular lens 5 stars. Fantastic lens, does everything it should with professional results every time. Happy to have it and plan to use it with great regularity. It will last for many many years of daily use as have all of my Nikon lenses...

Update of one of Nikon's most respected NIKKOR lenses delivers sharp images and its fast maximum aperture ensures a bright viewfinder image as well as beautiful background blur. The moderate wide angle capability of the lens is suitable for interiors, weddings, photojournalism and landscape photography.
