This has been my "normal" indoor lens since about 1985. With the f/1.4 speed, I can do anything in any available darkness. Combined with the fast ISO speeds of my D600 and D800 bodies, this lens does things I never imagined. You can pull photos out of places where you can barely even see. If you love available light or photograph indoors a lot, this lens is a MUST HAVE.

It's a great lens, has some chromatic aberration and looks "soft" at f/1.4, but if you see with detail it still sharp at the center in this aperture, in the other apertures it evolve to it's greatness excepting at f/16 because diffraction. I found it's best performance to be at f/5.6 and f/8. I think it could be pricy but you will love it, it's optical quality is even better than other 35mm newer lenses (nikon included).

Real good for close ups on fishing trips.Color slides are magnificent with this lens.Lens is very sturdy and focuses nicely.Too many people are stating flaws for these manual lenses because they are using digital slrs. They are just fine using film slrs. Film slides rock.

This is indeed my favorite lens: Super fast, absolutely perfect performer already at 2.8, and it has the special Nikkor magic :) at a decent price ...

Fantastic, 20 years old and still be the best. Only one defect: no beautiful bokeh at f2 and f2.8, but at f1.4.... WOW!!!! And all details are captured! It's the best for me.

Fast, accurate with the flexibllity to be used for landscape vistas, individual/group portraits and specialized areas like HDR photographs this lens will meet or exceed your expectations; or at least it has for me.

I've had this lens for years. It looks great on film, but digital cameras exaggerate its design limitations - extreme coma, strong color fringes and blurry corners at 1.4-2. And the reason to get a lens like this is to use it at f1.4 or so.

Huge amounts of coma and lateral aberrations make images veiled and soft wide open (think of cheap popular plastic-lens cameras). At f2 the lens sharpens up a bit. From f2.8 to f5.6 it has high contrast and good resolution - would never guess it's the same lens. Note - on film the aberrations at f1.4 are not nearly as objectionable and difficult to work with. Classic brass construction is fantastic. Waiting for computer contacts and silent wave motor in this. Dreading that it will be remade with a plastic body and a massive price tag.

NIKKOR 35mm is a general wide-angle prime lens with f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field for using selective focus. The optical design uses a Close Range Correction system, which maintains consistent image quality and sharpness from the minimum focusing distance to infinity.
