Questions & Answers

Shopper : Hi I have a Nikon AF-S ED 600 mm 1:4 d Lens and would like to know if the CPL1L circular polarizer drop in filter will fit? My lens does accept 52mm drop ins but the holder on mine is different than the one pictured. Thank you Ron CTOMMY H : I do not have the lens you do.Sorry.Anand M : It does appear that the 600mm f/4D lens takes this same filter, but I have a different lens, so cannot say for sure. Nikon does seem to have stayed consistent with the design, and only lenses which need a different diameter filter have other accessories.ANDREW R : Compatible with the following Lenses • 200-400mm VR II #2187 • 300mm F/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR II • 400mm F/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR • 500mm F/4.0G ED-IF AF-S VR • 600mm F/4.0G ED-IF AF-S VR Also will fit the older models • 300mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S VR NIKKOR #2154 • AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G IF-ED #2146
Shopper : have nikon d-60 how is this filter installed on c nikon dx 18-55 mm lens?AUDREY K : This filter is for use on the Nikon 400mm telephoto lens. It's not applicable to the 18-55mm.RICH R : This filter is not for that lens. It is made for Nikons longer lenses. It only fits on a few lens with drop in filters like the the 200-400f4 and few of the fixed lens of 300 and bigger. I think you would like a screw on for the front of the lens on filter not a drop in that drops in to a slot in the rear of the lens. Very few lens are made with the drop in filter.MARILYN N : It doesn't fit on that lens, only the ones listed.WARREN S : It isn't. This is for a super telephoto lens. I might fit the front of your lens if you remove it from the holder. I am unfamiliar with that particular lens, but the filter, unscrewed from the drop-in mount, might fit if the lens takes a 52mm and the threads match.KARL H : This is not the correct filter for an 18-55mm lens. This is for large telephoto like 300mm f2.8... try: http://www.adorama.com/TF52CPL.html Much cheaper also :-)MARK C : This is a drop in filter used with the long telefoto lenses.RICHARD B : It's not usable on 18-55 lens. Requires a lens with drop in filter like 2.8/400 or 2.8/200-400TIMOTHY D : This drop in filter is designed for long lenses. It fits close to the camera. The DX 18-55 lens would use a screw-on polarizing lens at the front of the lens.JOHN D : This cannot be used on that lens. It is designed for the super telephotos like my Nikon 500mm f4 which have a drop in slot for filters since since the front element is huge.STEVEN W : Will NOT work. Only for long telephoto lens.MYER MD B : This filter is for the 500 & 600 mm f/4 lens. You want a 52 mm circular polarizer which Adorama hasRAPHAEL S : This is a drop-in filter for the BIG lenses listed under the description. The 18-55 needs a screw-on filter.CHRIS C : It is not. The filter is for use in the 300 f2.8, 400 f2.8 and 500 f4
Gregory H : Does anyone know if the Singh-Ray Rotating Polarizers can also be fitted into this drawer?Gregory H : I received my Singh-Ray retrofit of their Blue-Gold polarizer today. It works flawlessly, and the optics seem more than capable inside the 300mm. I was able to work with the 77mm of this same filter on my Nikon 28-300 this past week with my D600. Beautiful effects, that seem to almost natural, almost as if they are simply more of what one expects from the polarizer. The gear-teeth work fine.PHILIP L : The way it works is that the outside edge of the Nikon CPL has gear teeth and the top knob rotates the top gear. Singh-Ray doesn't have it, and I'm not sure it would be possible to make it work if you tried. IMHO not worth it as the Nikon CPL is very high quality too.DAVE T : No, or it would be extremely difficult to rotate the filter...the Nikon filter has a geared rotator and there is a difference in the distance to the next piece of glass so you could have focusing issues.JOHN D : Only is the Sing-Ray is in the standard 52mm threaded filter form factor. The device will take any standard 52mm filter, not just a polarizer. What's unique is the ability to rotate it in place.Anand M : I'm not sure. But if they fit, is it a good idea? This glass is part of the lens element system, just like the glass you take out to put this in. Putting in glass which isn't correctly optically matched can affect the performance of the lens.Gregory H : Actually, the particular Singh-Ray in which I am interested has a gear tooth edge. Singh-Ray has responded to my inquiry, and for a custom charge that seems reasonable, they will fit their filter in to the CPL1L.JERRY Y : I have no ideaCHRIS C : No they can not. it required a gear tooth edge so you can rotate it using the external thumb knob.RAPHAEL S : No. This design is very Nikon Specific.GEORGE E : According to Nikon this is a part of the lens optics and they recommend only using Nikon parts. The filter screws into the housing which I strongly believe is Nikon compatible only. You must remove the clear filter that is installed with the lens when shipped and replace it with the polarizer. I would suggest contacting Singh-Ray to see if any of their products will thread onto the filter housing before purchasing.

Another dimension of control

I purchased this (highly specialized) polarizer for the Nikon 200-400mm f/4 lens. While I found it important to pay close attention to the instructions for removing the standard drop-in filter and installing this, I am so pleased with the results and ease of use that I now leave the polarizer in place and treat is as simply one more of the numerous useful controls that are part of this lens. Not inexpensive, but I've found it to be a worthwhile investment given the results in my photographs

It' a polarizer...

Effective at reducing glare, especially when shooting around marine backgrounds. Color saturation improved significantly.
