One of my companies - Images Linked - was lucky to recently buy a new 105mm f/2 before it is phased out. Best portrait lens my company has purchased. Images Linked has been busy over the years with rock & jazz band portraits, animal portraits along with old object portraits (like restored WW1 & WW2 aircraft, custom mortorcycles at national shows, etc). I wish my company purchased this lens 5+ yrs ago. This 105mm f/2 will be used at all the weddings, concerts & animal portraits, etc.

I’ve owned this lens for almost 20 years. It has produced excellent product shots, portraits, landscapes and, of course, close up and macro shots. I also own the excellent 105 f2.8 G VR lens, and in many regards, feel this older D lens still retains the quality I’ve come to expect from Nikon. As an aside, I learned photography using a Nikon F with the old 55 f 3.5 Micro Nikkor in the late 70’s. This lens is a true modern workhorse, and maintains the legacy of that old trend setting lens.

For me it is a logically constructed lens. Everything is where it should be. It is not necessary to say that the images are perfect and since I do not need auxiliary light for my bugs, I am happy.

I've heard people recommending this lens for a long time now. So I finally got one, glad I did... beautiful little lens. I bought it to use on my D500 as a portrait lens. 60mm on a 1.5 APS-C sensor gives me a 90mm equivalent. A nice focal range for portraiture. Very pleased...

I didn't really need a macro lens, but I saw the good price on this used one. I had never bought used equipment from Adorama but this was listed as E+, which means no scratches on the lens, light wear on exterior. So I got the lens. It arrived quickly and I have not been able to find a single scratch or mark on the lens. I am very pleased with Adorama's service. The 60mm Nikon micro lens is a very nice lens. I had debated between getting the 60mm or the 105mm. After trying the 60mm, I think the 105 would be more useful, mostly due to the fact you must get up close to the subject, which blocks the light on the subject unless it is back or side light. Other than that, I really like the lens.

After much research, I decided to get the 60mm f/2.8D for macro work. Little did I know it would end up being my most used lens overall, because of its superior sharpness and contrast. It worked beautifully on my D610, and then spectacularly on my D810. The crispness of detail in macro work is unparalleled if used with good light and a tripod. Since it has an aperture ring, it can be used with macro rings and bellows if you want to go super close up. Its short length can be tough if you are trying to shoot shy creatures, but excellent for flowers and other "still" life. It doesn't work well with filters because of the recessed element. It is a wonderful portrait lens in tight spaces where an 85mm-up can't be used, or for newborns. The crispness will capture every flaw, so keep the aperture wide. Bokeh is nice, but not as pretty as the 85f/1.8G or the 135mm f/2D-DC. It also is an excellent lens for landscape shots as you can set your depth of field to f/22-f/32 although the sharpness begins to fall off after f/16. The recessed front element is great as a lens hood isn't really necessary. This lens has virtually zero CA and little distortion that can be easily corrected in editing. It has a classic "zeep-zeep" loud autofocus sound (that I personally like) and is just a little slow. With macro shots, you will have to switch to manual focus, but the focus ring is smooth and tight. An amazing lens that should not disappoint.

I recommend this product for professional ,entry-level and entry-professional photographers. It is a high quality lens with no distortions and a great blur effect. I mostly used with a D5100 and D5300. This lens is one of my favourites. It definitely deserves 5 stars!

I picked up a used 60mm D on eBay last year, and though I also own the 105 VR and intend to get the 200mm micro, I am loving this 60D lens on my Df. I thought about the G version, and I have both G and D lenses in my kit. I went for a used D because I am just having a Renaissance moment with Nikon's D lenses. I find them small and tasteful. Plus, great pictures! I originally got this for those times when I go to aquariums. With a rubber hood, this lens is perfect for photographing fish through glass. Also, it's a nice light lens. I can hold the Df with 60mm with one hand if I need to. Easy to stablilize.

This is fantastic on the D800e. I strongly recomend placing protective filter on the front for walk around casual use as the front element is very exposed. I also prefer a rubber lens hood as it reduces hard bumps as with the provided hard plastic hood. Also works great as a regular walk around lens. I especially like the internal focusing feature as there is no air pumping through the lens and camera when focusing like the older designs and less internal dust potential.

This Nikon micro lens is perfect for reproducing fine art work. The reproduction of the painting below was taken with a Nikon D800 camera body at an aperture of f/8, an ISO of 100, and Matrix Metering.

This is a very good lens length, it is very easy to hand hold and hand hold still. It is probably the best Nikkor macro of this range, I have owned the 55 mm 3.5 non-Ai, the 55mm 2.8 AIs and the 60mm 2.8 AF-d....all have been very good this one tops them. The only thing I would like to see is for this lens to have a collapsible lens hood, at 1:1 the current one can get in the way. All that said one thing few comment about is it's lack of distortion. This lens not only has horizontal and vertical lines without distortion, but the squares are square and the rounds are round. It is an excellent lens when perfect shapes are needed.

Macro is a fascinating aspect of photography and I acquired a manual focus Micro-Nikkor several years ago and created a number of wonderful pictures with it. However, I was always frustrated by the annoyance of setting up the older lens. I was lucky to find a pre-owned 60mm lens and the auto-focus makes such a difference. Not only do I have a sharp everyday f2.8 60mm for my D610 I can also use it on my DX body as a 90mm portrait lens. I am sure the latest 'G' version is a masterpiece too, but for the occasional close-up work I shoot this lens is great.

No problems... Nice micro. Easy to use. What you would expect in a Nikon lens.

This lens provides the versatility that I needed when traveling in Thailand, I shot scenery and portrait using this lens with very satisfying results. I recommend this lens when you are traveling light and want sharp quality for all conditions. Excellent in low light conditions, great depth of field.

I’ve had this lens for a while now and feel confident enough to share a small review. Starting off I must say how sharp this lens is. I use a D50 and a D200 with this lens and they work very well with this lens. This lens is of a quality that feels good in the hand and on the camera, well made in Japan. The limit feature is quite useful if your subject is from one foot to infinity, focusing becomes very quick in deed, the same is true on the macro side going from1:3 TO 1:1 ratios. The lens uses a ring on the barrel fitted with a lock button to let you switch from manual or automatic focus, the focusing ring is very smooth and response well to the touch. To get a f/2.8 Nikon had to increase the front element to a 62mm accessory, this not a problem, I have the Micro 85mm f/3.5 with a 52mm front element loosing ? of a stop is not worth a smaller 52mm accessory. In conclusion all I can say is that the lens is worth every penny I paid for it.

Loved this lens from the moment I opened it. It does an awesome job with macro. It's pretty fast and works great as a portrait lens (on a crop camera). I prefer my 35mm for a walk around lens, but this isn't bad either. A little too close for some things, but really a great all around lens.

I have gotten some really excellent close-up shots with this lens. Amazing image quality. I've been using it for general photography as well and it works great. The only thing to note is that in order to get true 1:1 macro shots you will need to be within an inch of your subject. If you are hoping to get shots of insects that won't like that then you may want to consider a longer focal length.

I bought this lens to add to my professional kit. I never thought I could hand hold a camera still enough for a macro shot but I was wrong. This is a fantastic lens that lives up to every expectation you can ever imagine you would need a macro lens for. Don't dither, buy it!

This lens loves doing Micro work and feels like a natural fit on your camera body.. It is small, light, and does double duty as your standard lens in a single package. It works very well in situations for working in botanical gardens, in the park or where tight crops or wider whole plant portraiture is important. You can't ask for a better walk around lens with Micro capabilities than this 60mm. Makes almost anything pop off the page with detail. I love it because it is short, compact, carry proof for all day outings, and has a wider field of view for whole plant portraiture.

I use this lens to retake signs and labels on the equipment. I live and work in Russia. Focusing is sometimes mistaken for work at low temperatures (When the air temperature inside the lens is different from the outside temperature?). Additionally reluctantly note: there is no instruction in Russian. Please publish the manual in Russian.

ES UN EXCELENTE LENTE. YO TENIA UN POCO DE INCERTIDUMBRE CUANDO LO COMPRE YA QUE EXISTE EL 105 MM CON FUNCION DE VR, PERO LA EXPERIENCIA QUE HE TENIDO CON EL 60 MM HA SIDO MUY GRATA, UNAS IMAGENES IMPRESIONANTES, BUENO SE NECESITA SOLAMENTE UN POCO DE ATENCION A LA HORA DE ENFOCAR PARA QUE LA FOTO NO SALGA MOVIDA, PERO EN REALIDAD ESO NO ES INCONVENIENTE. EL PRECIO CREO QUE LO VALE POR LAS IMAGENES QUE BRINDA. UN MUY, PERO MUY BUEN LENTE. MUY RECOMENDABLE.

I sold my 90mm macro and bought a Nikon, I should've stick to Nikon in the first place! This 60mm f/2.8 af-s works like a charm! I bought it used but works like new and the AF is very fast although I don't use it on macro but AF works and helps on portraits -) great lens!

I bought this to photograph oil paintings. It is 1:1 and basically zero distortion. On my D800 it is simply amazing. For copy work I use f5.6 but this is a great 2.8 for portraits! It is almost too sharp, Every tiny hair is recorded. Rediculous. As an artist, I like to use my photos as reference for making artwork. The 1:1 ratio and lack of distortion make this the perfect lens for many things. I did buy it as a refurb but in 3 1/2 months it has been perfect. I need to look into the 105mm micro version as well. One more thing, it is the least expensive Nikkor lens recommended to use by Nkon for the D800. I can see why. You will get all the resolution from that 36mp camera with this lens.

Bought in Demo conditon and the lens looks like it is new. I also have the Tamron 90mm macro and the Nikkor is sharper with better color rendition. Everyone complains about the focus hunting but this is normal in all macro lenses. Focus is accurate with an average speed to find focus. Focus ring is smooth which is also good for video. The M A ring takes some getting used to compared to the clutch M A on the Tamron which is much faster to change. This Nikkor is very well built and should last a lifetime. I plan on putting a Nikon NC filter to avoid pulling dust in thru the front of the lens since is has that cool triple petal mechanism. Overall this is a must have lens for anyone who appreciates Nikon D quality.

This is my first lens that I bought after i got my D90 kit. Truly worth every penny. The lens is amazingly sharp. The DOF at f2.8 is so shallow that sometimes its hard to get everything in view. The bokeh is also nice and adds a beautiful effect to the photograph. Overall, totally worth to get this lens. Also works as a fantastic potrait lens. Only problem is it is extremely sensitive to "vibrations". Tripod use is highly recommended with this lens. OR get the slightly more expensive newer VR version.

A lens I can "get close" with...
By Weekly T.
I bought this lens for a few reasons, it's highly rated quality glass, it's fast, and it's a macro lens (what Nikon calls "Micro"). Being a macro lens was a big factor as I did not have a macro in my bag. So I put it on my camera and headed out I go to grab some shots of water droplets. While I was shooting I was surprised at how quiet it was (important when shooting events like weddings and you don't want to be intrusive), and just how close I could get to my subject, within a few inches. ...
