A great lens for portrait and close-up

By ccutter

This lens was bought to replace a Nikkor 105 mm lens that I bought 20 years ago and later sold. Now that i am into digital photography i need a similiar lens. This lens is lightweight, slightly "fat" (lens cap size is 62), and provides no means to change aperature adjustment except inside the camera controls. I prefer the manual focus for close-ups because it works well, is faster, and doesn't change as your camera may change its point of view. For full macro you need to get very close to the ...

Blew me away!

By JOHN T.

The first day I got this lens, I tried a few shots and was overjoyed by the clarity. The most amazing shots were of a dollar bill. I was able to get within a couple inches of the bill, and the fine detail astounded me. The images revealed details that I had never imagined in the printing. One warning: as you get closer to the object, the depth of field narrows. When taking photos of the dollar bill, the depth of field was probably about 1 millimeter, which meant that a simple fold in the bil...

The Compact, versatile Micro-NIKKOR lens for close-up, copy work and general photography. It provides continuous autofocus from infinity to life-size (1:1 reproduction ratio). Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables accurate, high-speed and quiet autofocus operation. Two aspherical elements virtually eliminate coma and other types of lens aberration even at the widest aperture.

ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element offer superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration. The Internal Focusing (IF) design allows faster, smoother autofocusing and eliminates barrel length changes for consistent handling-design also eliminates front element rotation, enabling easier use of polarizers and Nikon's Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System.

Thomas B  Quality and fits my camera.
Sidney K  I purchased this lens based on my particular needs and the research that I did regarding it’s features.
Diego T  Product photography.
MICHAEL M  Recommended by other photographers I work with for both micro and portrait photography for my Nikon D750 and D810.
Scotland S  This is a very good lens. If you have never shot with a Micro, you should give it a shot. ;-P Outstanding close-ups of people and vegetation.
DAVID M  I chose this lens because I needed a fixed focal length lens for portraits and macro photography. It works really well.
JOHN M  Great resolution.
PAUL R  I had the older 60mm f/2.8 D lens and it was one of my favorites that I took everywhere. I thought I'd try out this newer version and it's just as good as the older one - maybe a tad better - it's even a little sharper. Still have the older one, but this one is now in my camera bag more often than the older one.
MICHAEL D  Haven't had a Micro-Nikkor since I got into auto-focus lenses - and I missed having one. Spectacular lens.
Jerry S  Answer to ??? regarding AF functions for this lens: Yes, It will autoficus on Nikon's lower end DSLR's I bought it when I had a D60 and D40. It has it's own focus motor 'AFS' so it will do great on a 3000 or 5000 series or lower
B. MICHAEL C  Sorry but I do not know. I use the lens on my Nikons: D700, D3s, or my D5. These are not low end cameras.
sam k  Does AF work on D3200 with this lens?
DR D  I only use D300; it works very well
ANTOINETTE B  I use it with my D300 and D800 cameras. I do not know but assume it would be compatible with the D3200.
VICTOR G Z  I don't know. I have a Nikon D7200 and the lens works with this camera. You can go to the Nikon home page and it has lens and camera matches (or it used to have.) Victor G Z
JH J  This is a current series lens, so there should be no problem

Nikon 58mm Lens Review

Nikon recently released a new lens into its arsenal. A fast aperture with quick focus and once down to f4 very sharp across the image. This lens doesn't vignette in the corners on a full frame camera like the D610 I used to test it. Just one thing about it. It's 58mm...yes, you read that right,...Read More
