I love this lens. With a full-frame sensor camera like the D5 and D850 I have, you can select anything from a full-circle 180 degree view at 8mm to a frame-filling rectangular image at 15mm (roughly 170 degrees horizontal, according to the lens manual). It's extremely sharp and easy to use. A few notes: (a) I wouldn't buy this lens for a DX camera - it will work, but you won't get the benefit of the wide end of the range. I had the 10.5mm DX fisheye with my D500 and it was equally useful at much less cost; (b) you have to remove the lens hood if you're using the 8mm end of the zoom - that's easy to do, and you can remove it with the lens cap, but if you don't you'll see the hood in the image; and (c) the kit bundle at no extra cost is nice, but don't plan to use the included Slinger case. It's a nice case, but it doesn't fit this lens. The lens comes with its own soft case from Nikon which does fit - use the Slinger for other lenses or a point'n shoot camera.

Almost perfect. Sharper than any fisheye I've owned (several!). Love the versatility of having a circular and full-frame fisheye effect in the same lens. My only gripe is the borders at 8mm (see attached).

This lens is fantastic. The width of perspective and the unique photo views make this lens one of my favorites. If you shoot with a camera Nikon camera, you should consider adding this lens to your photo equipment family of lens. This lens is a bit expense but worth it.

I like the quality of the lens and the images it creates. The stars of this product represent the Nikon 8-15mm above, nothing to do with Adorama. The reasons for the 4 stars are for a few reasons. It's the ONLY fish eye with AF/AE available for the Nikon Z6/Z7. I would have preferred a prime lens. I don't see the point of a 8-15, you have either a full circular fisheye, the diagonal fisheye, or somewhere in between. The lens says that it's all internally focusing and the lens doesn't get any larger, however there is very minimal movement to the lens and I suspect some opportunity for dust particles to get inside the lens. I do like that it comes with a removable hood and lens cover. Good job Nikon for that thought.

I'm very excited to have added this lens to my kit, it's so much fun! Obviously, you can't use all the time but, for truly creative endeavors, it's amazing! Thank you Nikon!

Of all the lenses I’ve purchased over the years, this one is the only one I’ve purchased for fun. Every other lens was purchased with a purpose in mind - lens speed, zoom ratio, weight,... This one was for fun - and its fun. The fisheye images are fun to make and look at - a very different view of the world. It’s a fisheye - produces really good fisheye images - so the world is bent to fit. I can’t imagine using it for a shoot, but that’s not is purpose anyway. Still its a Nikon Nikkor with the build quality I’ve come to expect. It’s a scratch magnet with that protruding front element, although the 14mm 2.8 sticks out even further - the lens hood is useful for this - gives some protection to the lens.

WOW..! This is a beauty and amazingly sharp lens. I was very impressed. Your possibilities are endless with what you can do with this lens. I am often asked, "How did you?" Cons: You may not want to use any other lens for awhile.

This lens is everything they say it is, I read a lot of reviews before purchase and it is super sharp and extremely versatile. Adorama was great to deal with once again held it for me for 3 weeks while i got my next paycheck at the discounted Nikon special price. Thank you Frank. Cheers Louis.

I think that there really is no other lens quite like this one. I would liked to have used it more. But the photos I have taken with it point to the creative power of the lens. However, in actuality, it is more like having two lenses in one than it is an infinitely progressive zoom. At 15mm, it functions like a superwide angle fisheye sort of lens, producting a rectangular image. And possibly so at 14 mm. At 8 mm it captures a spherical fisheye image. In between though, when transitioning between those two states, it is something of an unsatisfying hybrid. Neither fish nor fowl. Perhaps, when I have learned to utilize the lens better, those intermediate focal lengths will prove more appealing. But as of now, I consider it more of an "either/or" lens. Either a 15mm lens or an 8mm, all in one package. But in either focal length, it is a wonderful lens, capable of producing sharp, creative images. I am most anxious to put it through some more paces and to get better acquainted with it. But already, while I was reviewing the first set of photo that I took with the lens, my normally reserved (in these matters) wife saw the photo on my computer screen, and without prompting just blurted out, "Oh, wow." So the lens has already, literally proven to have that "wow" factor. In a perfect world, it might come with a better lens case, rather than just a pouch. And it would also have filter thread, as well. That would be particularly welcome, since when shooting at 8mm, on definitely needs to remove the lens hood to eliminate some severe vignetting. This leaves the front element particularly exposed with no protection whatsoever. Though this is far from a perfect world, this is a perfectly fine lens once one has all the basic focal lengths covered.

This is definitely a specialty lens, giving me expanded possibilities in my work. I am impressed with the images that it produces. I can zoom from ultra wide angle to to a circular fisheye on my full frame camera. It's my first fisheye lens and I'm glad to have this one. It has an excellent build quality. I also like the way the cap mechanism locks into place.

Great lens. Not a go to lens but I did not intend it to be. It is to get me to think in a creative mode to make mind bending images. Yowzerr! It's play time.

In the past I have not been thrilled with fish-eye lens. Then a friend showed some work he had done which interested me enough to buy this lens. I am learning to use it and having fun doing it. I has specialty uses and has a relatively steep learning curve.I suggesting borrowing or renting a fish-eye first and use it for awhile before buying one.

I never would have thought this lens could be created. This is unheard of in the world of camera optics just ten years ago. This lens was meant to be mated to a Full Frame Nikon Body. The overall sharpness is incredible.

I'm a big fan of super wide angle lenses and this one is very good. It's small enough to be convenient (unlike the massive Nikon 14-24mm), has a great zoom range down to 8mm (unlike the Nikon 16mm prime), and delivers a full fisheye effect, which is very cool. This is not your everyday lens and you probably don't "have to have it," but it sure is fun and the image quality is superb.

ArchitectureThe ultrawide field of view allows a perspective that you need to experience to appreciate. Extremely sharp and flare is unbelievably well controlled I am a telephoto shooter but this is giving me a whole new view of things. I find myself carrying it almost all thee time. Sunsets and clouds take on a whole new look. Architecture is exciting. Love it!

There was a long wait after Nikon announced this lens but Adorama shipped it quick over night. The lens is very nice, good weight/build and shade & lens cap attach security. I have only used it a few times but I'm very pleased with results, sharp with a awesome field of view. This will not be a every shoot lens put offers a great new angle/view, fun artistic lens when used in the right situations. I'm over all very pleased with the purchase and look forward to many cool photos in the future. I know this lens will not be for everyone but those who do make the purchase I feel they will not regret it. Enjoy!!

This new fisheye zoom lens, Nikon's first, may be a specialty lens, but it can be used for many situations if you are willing to reconsider the parameters of composition. The lens is extreme sharp. Below is a circular image, the result of the lens's 8mm focal length that provides a 180 degree field of view both horizontally and vertically. The below rectangular image, the result of the lens's 15mm focal length, provides a 180 degree field of view only vertically.

I never would have thought this lens could be created. This is unheard of in the world of camera optics just ten years ago. This lens was meant to be mated to a Full Frame Nikon Body. The overall sharpness is incredible.
Meet the first NIKKOR fisheye lens with zoom capability—and the first NIKKOR zoom to capture epic 180° circular images. The AF-S FISHEYE NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED lens brings a new level of versatility and sharpness to extreme wide-angle lenses, freeing you to choose the right fisheye perspective for the shot; to create frame-filling images from as close as 0.5 feet from your subject or to follow your passion into challenging, heavily backlit, even wet and dirty situations. For those seeking a new source of inspiration and expression, this lens delivers.
NIKKOR's first fisheye zoom lens
If you’re the kind of photographer or videographer who likes to think outside the box, the AF-S FISHEYE NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED lens opens a new world of possibilities. Not only can you shoot traditional full-frame fisheye images, you can also zoom out to create fascinating 180° circular images. And you can get extremely close to your subject—as close as 0.5 feet with a 0.34x reproduction ratio—for close-up fisheye shots. Create images unlike any you've seen.
Optimized for Nikon's latest DSLRs
The AF-S FISHEYE NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED lens builds on NIKKOR's legacy of superb wide-angle optics and produces flawless detail across the entire frame at any aperture. Three ED glass elements and two Aspherical (AS) lens elements combat chromatic aberration and color fringing for stunning sharpness and contrast. Nano Crystal Coat (N) cuts through ghosting and flare, key because your 180° shots often will include bright light sources like the sun. Expect consistent, brilliant photos and videos.
Durable design and agile performance
The AF-S FISHEYE NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED lens is a workhorse. The front and rear elements have Nikon’s protective Fluorine coat, which lets grime and liquid roll right off the lens. The lens barrel is dust and moisture resistant for shooting in challenging conditions. You can even remove the lens hood and lens cap together to shoot 180° circular images, or leave the hood on to shoot a frame-filling traditional fisheye image. Simple, robust and intuitive design means you get the shot without the worry.
A-M
A-M stands for Auto-Manual Mode. Thanks to a mechanism incorporated in the lens barrel, smooth focusing operation in Manual focus mode is realized in the same way as users have become accustomed to with conventional manual-focus lenses by adding an appropriate torque to the focus ring.
Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.
Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting. With conventional D/G type lenses, the diaphragm blades are operated by mechanical linkage levers.
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.
M/A
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
Nano Crystal Coat
An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Nano Crystal Coat uses ultrafine, nano-sized* crystal particles to eliminate reflections inside the lens throughout the spectrum of visible light waves (380 to 780 nm) in ways that far exceed the limits of conventional antireflection coating systems. Nano Crystal Coat not only solves ghost effects caused by red light, which was incredibly difficult for previous systems. It also effectively reduces ghost and flare effects caused by light entering the lens diagonally. The result: clearer images.
Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.
