I expected a more technical presentation of CLS, in particular how to choose the number and placement of speedlights, how to blend flash with natural light, how to choose sync speed and shutter speed for different effects. The material in the DVD is good and useful for a first viewing, but most of it can be viewed freely on youtube.

Bought the DVD and viewed it twice already. Well paced and nicely structured content with accompanying graphics and examples. It starts with Bob Krist leading the viewers through the fundamentals and later on with Joe McNally, they kick it into high gear. There are some really great tips in here. Both these guys being National Geographic photographers, would you not want to listen to them? I would! This is a keeper. A bit pricey though...

Great video, but failed to share with the viewer the actual camera and flash settings. There were times where some info was given, but for this to be a tutorial, they missed the mark with the detail stuff. I could have gained more if they would have said for each and every scenario how they set the camera and flash. This, to me, would have made this an excellent video.

Visual instruction for a visual medium. Just plain great stuff on using small flash lighting for portraits, macro shots and much more. A very high quality production that will both teach and inspire.

This is a very nice DVD that gives a simple step by step information on the use of Nikon Flash Units, and how multiple flash units can be simultaneously used to creat good photographs

The Nikon School "A Hands On Guide to Creative Lighting" is presented by Bob krist and Joe McNally who demonstrate the use of Nikon speedlights for situations ranging from macro, basic studio, right through to outdoor shoots in daylight, twilight, and night scenes. Each shoot starts off with a simple setup and progresses to more complex setups showing what can be achieved with just speedlights, and finally the print. The dvd cover of a ballerina used a speedlight set up outside the window to give that warm afternoon sun glow type look, while the actual weather was quite dismal. Anyone who uses speedlights, from beginner to professional, will find this dvd an inexpensive but very useful addition to their library.

This video is highly recommended to any Nikon flash user. It covers not only the fundamentals, but details in great depth and breadth.

Extremely worthwhile, even if you think you this stuff already.
