I purchased this to replace my previous scope. The picture and clarity is absolutely crisp. For the money it?s very good. In the long plains of West Texas you can watch your dog wonder off for three weeks. At the end of the day you will not be disappointed I promise you. Unless you just picky

I'm using it as a spotting scope at 100 yards. Crisp and clear at that range, even looking for small holes in the target. The down side is the eye relief; super close for viewing, but functional. A camera adaptor would be great??

You get what you pay for, in a good sense. For the price, this is a high quality scope ? especially when you consider that the whole scope costs less than the objective lens of the top-shelf $3k+ scopes. You will notice the difference in image, and in features, such as the lack of a fine focus knob, but depending on your budget, these things can be easy or hard to live with. This makes it a great entry-level scope. And if you take care of it, in contrast to electronics, after 5 or 10 years it will still be 100% as good as the day you bought it. The original 82mm lens cap falls off surprisingly easily. I have had much better luck with aftermarket replacements.

I was looking for a midrange scope with good glass and have had Nikon cameras and binoculars for many years. The lenses are good quality. The enclosure is plastic which didn't bother me since this scope will only see light duty. While there is only one focus knob this works fine. Some of the scopes have two and there must be situations where this comes in handy but for me would be a complication. As some other reviews have said the 60x magnification sacrifices some resolution but the lower mags are nice and sharp. On a tripod I can read signs a good distance away. I've only had the scope a couple weeks but feel I got a good value for the money.

Bought this for spotting targets at indoor shooting range. It offers sharp focus and is plenty bright. The eye relief is perfect for viewing with safety goggles. Previously had purchased a Meade 20-60x60 and it didn't focus at less than 28 feet, has no eye relief, and is dim. You get what you pay for. While this Nikon is pricey, it is very very good.

Good scope. We use it for birding and it is great for scanning shorebird flocks on the flats!

I'd rate this scope as a somewhat disappointing average. I bought it primarily for birding, though I also use it for some astronomy. The clarity is decent at the minimum magnification. It suffers as you zoom to the highest magnification, which is typical for this price range of scope, but I guess I was hoping for better performance. The zoom function is right next to the eyepiece and it's easy to disturb the eye relief setting when using the zoom. I also found that the zoom has a relatively short travel from low to high level. I'd prefer a little more travel. The opposite can be said of the focus knob, which requires quite a bit of travel as you change viewing distances. Since there's only one focus knob, it can be a lot of work to stay on a moving target, sometimes repositioning your fingers, since the knob is pretty small. You can roll the knob, using your finger as a bow, but with gloves on in winter that can be difficult to do fine focus work. The neoprene protective sleeve that came with the outfit does fit nicely on the scope, and it does offer some protection without interfering with the use of the scope. I wish the lens covers for the scope were a better design, the objective lens cover has two release points that have to be squeezed together, and once released you have to put the cover in your pocket. I'd rather see a simpler flap type cover that would stay attached or tethered to the sleeve. The eyepiece cover is a rubber cap style that also has to go in your pocket, so now you've got two covers to keep track of. The tripod that comes in this outfit is a joke at best. It's nowhere near solid or heavy enough to be taken seriously as an outdoor scope mount. Even indoors I suspect it wouldn't be steady enough for satisfactory use. It has a fairly low hight with just the legs extended, so people over about 5 feet tall will have to extend the center mount, which just introduces more instability. Maybe it would hold a point and shoot camera, but that's about it. The Scope is light, and that may be a good thing for carrying, but it is susceptible to vibrations from wind, not to mention the typical motions of use. I bought this outfit after some fairly thorough research online. I don't have an optics store that carries more than one or two brands of scopes that I'd be able to try out. I suspect if I could have compared a few different scopes with this model I might have been willing to spend a little more to get better optic quality and features. The Nikon warranty is excellent, and I think the build quality of the scope is also excellent, which is one of the reasons I like Nikon products. I just think I might have been better off spending a little more to get one of their higher end scopes. Adorama Camera did provide good service as far as that went, meaning they shipped it quickly.
