The Nikon MONARCH Fieldscope's versatility is the unique Hybrid Body System, which provides users total interchangeability of objective lens, prism body and eyepiece components, along with the ability to adapt the objective lens directly to a DSLR camera via the digiscoping attachment for ultra-high resolution imaging.
For instance, should the owner of the MONARCH 60mm Straight Body Outfit desire a larger objective lens for observation or digiscoping, they only need to purchase the 82mm Objective Lens Unit. Or, if a situation dictated the need for an angled body, only the Angled Prism Unit needs to be purchased. Each of the other system components is consistent and fully functional throughout the line.
The MONARCH Fieldscope was created to satisfy the critical demands of both the observer and the digiscoping enthusiast. The system's Digiscoping Attachment provides the ability for prime focus digiscoping-or directly connecting the Objective Lens Unit to a Nikon Digital SLR Camera through the Digiscoping attachment (FSA-L3), without the need to go through a prism unit or eyepiece. What is then effectively a super-telephoto lens allows more image-carrying light to pass through to the camera's image sensor without vignetting and other image degradation.
The MONARCH Fieldscope's Objective Lens Unit features the Dual Trans Focus System, which allows both fast focusing and fine focusing with the same focusing ring. Simply rotate the ring with a wide angle for fast focus. Rotate in the opposite direction and focus speed automatically slows down to one-third for slower, more precise focus. Focal length for the FX format DSLR camera using the 82mm Objective Unit is 500mm (750mm with DX format). Using the 60mm Objective Unit, focal length 400mm (600mm for DX format).
The Objective Lens Unit also features an extended sleeve mechanism engineered for smooth attachment and detachment. The goal is to reduce any optical axis deviation with either the Digiscoping Attachment or the Prism Unit attached, assuring universally sharp, high quality images.
Optical quality and performance of the new MONARCH Fieldscope is assured through the application of several Nikon technologies-first and foremost is its advanced apochromatic optical system with ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass lenses. This advanced system, combined with Nikon's legendary ED glass, corrects not only chromatic aberrations of red, blue and green wavelengths, but also violet chromatic aberration, which may otherwise interfere with contrast-rich image quality.
The MONARCH Fieldscope also features Nikon's Field Flattener Lens System, engineered to reduce field curvature and minimize both astigmatism and coma aberration for uncommonly sharp, high-resolution viewing and digiscoping images. Combined with advanced anti-reflective lens multi coating technologies, the lens system in the new MONARCH provides exacting color fidelity and inspiring brightness.
The Prism Units developed for the MONARCH Fieldscope system (Porro prism in the straight model and Nikon's original Total Reflection Prism in angled model) are designed to significantly reduce the amount of light lost during the reflection process and to provide clear, bright views. Advanced prism coatings uniformly transmit the light of a wide range of wavelengths.
With the MONARCH Fieldscope, users also have the ability to interchange eyepieces. The wide angle 30-60x zoom eyepiece that comes in the 82mm outfit becomes a 24-48x eyepiece when attached to the 60mm Fieldscope. Optional wide angle 20-60x (16-48x) zoom and a fixed power wide angle 38x (30x) Wide Angle eyepieces are also available. Each model features Nikon's multi-layer coatings that enhance light transmission and offer a uniformly sharp image throughout the field of view from center to periphery. The new CircuLock eyepiece attachment system is provided with a collet chuck and ratchet mechanism. The collet chuck secures the eyepiece uniformly and minimizes optical axis deviation, while an integral ratchet mechanism allows the eyepiece to be quickly removed.
The new MONARCH Fieldscope was engineered with inclement weather in mind. By engineering each component with minimal inter-space and integrating flexible, airtight packing at every connection joint, the Fieldscope system assures waterproof, fogproof performance. A fully rubber-armored exterior body further defies the conditions by providing comfortable handling, wet or dry.
