Mark M : Nikon HB-25 is what mm thread?ROBERT O : Sorry, I don't know. I just know that the hood is made for the lens' 72mm diameter.Mark M : Mine is not a bayonet, but a clip-on, apparently. Problem remains either way: The front on the lens rotates when zooming, including the front element and the hood mount. With a tulip-shaped lens-hood, you get random,variable vignetting. This is an older 24-120 3.5-5.6D.BLAINE J : There are no threads on this. It attaches to the lens with a bayonet mount and any filters you want to use go on the existing threads on the front of the lens. For both of the lenses this hood is designed for that'd be a 72mm filter.BENTON N : The HB-25 used a bayonet fit, not a thread. However the lens it fits has a 72mm thread. My replacement HB-25 was for my 18-200 DX lens.WILLIAM S : The hood is not threaded. As the title indicates, it is a bayonet attachment so that it aligns properly with the image frame when it is mounted. This precise alignment could not be arranged if a threaded coupling were used.B. MICHAEL C : The size is 72 mm but it attaches by a 1/4 turn click. It has NO threads. MikeJOSEPH H : IThe mm wirth of the hood is 75mm, but it fits on the 72mm diameter lens. The lens uses a "72" lens cap.

It's a lens hood

It's a lens hood, it fits what it is supposed to fit. Not sure what else can be said about it. Made by Nikon so it must be infused with the tears of Canon shooters, and blessed with the spirits of past Nikon aces. All photos shot from under this hood are destined for greatness and loads of Pulitzer Prizes for Photography. Really though, it does its job. Nothing more, nothing less.

The replacement hood WILL stay attached

I use the hood constantly but wore out the grooves n the old hood causing it to slip off constantly. The replacement hood fits well and works good as new
