I tried the cheaper ones because, as usual, the Nikon branded ones are more expensive. However, the cheaper ones are too flexible and are too fiddly to get them on properly. The Nikon brand go on fairly easy (although I do wish Nikon lens hoods were screw-on) and you can tell are better made. I keep losing lens hoods, so I guess I should just chalk it up to the cost of doing business, as it were.

This review is easy to write. When the original lens hood on my Nikon 18-200mm lens kept falling off (this lens was the one I bought when I got my D70 many, many years ago; I now have worked up to a D7200). The lens hood was worn out; I simply bought the exact duplicate which fits securely on my old 18-200 lens. I'm happy I bought an original replacement.

I'm disappointed with Nikon on this lens hood, it fits loosely on the lens and is easy to fall off. Nikon makes a locking lens hood for some of their lens and they should redesign this lens hood with that improvement.

Nikon is the only way to go for this lens hood. I had a lesser expensive one and it never fit very well and it broke. This one is much better.All so adds some protection

Everything is exactly like the original that came with the lens including the fact that after only a few jars, twists, and turns of the camera it falls off, which is the reason I had to buy this replacement. Looking for an answer to how to keep it attached better.

The lens hood is great to prevent glare. You have to watch that it doesn't come loose. I've lost one, but overall it's a good product.

The replacement lens good does exactly as designed. A duplicate of the original. Of course, it is a bit fragile which is why I need a replacement.

The only thing I would correct is how it latches on to the lens I have lost two of them already, they will pop off if you just bang the hood on something like the back of a chair or table so now I bought the lens cap leash II from Adorama. It attaches to the hood and the elastic loop fits around the lens so if it does pop off you won't lose it.

The original lens shade died a heroic death protecting the 18-200 zoom to which it was attached (hyperactive 5 year old running by caused the lens to smack into an immovable object). Wide angles are particularly vulnerable to sun issues, so a replacement was a must. Adorama delivered in a couple days. Reasonable cost, identical to OEM part, Sunday order and three-day delivery add up to a satisfied customer

I lost my lens hood, but didn't think it was a big deal, until I began a photography class. Now I understand that the hood serves two purposes: to guard against flare, and to protect the lens itself from damage if it is bumped into objects. I had read another review, claiming it fell off easily. I suspect that user hadn't learned to place it on correctly. It needs to be aligned with the white dot, and then twisted into place. When not in use (ie: when the camera is in the bag), it can be twisted off and placed on backwards, so it takes no space. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Although this hood is made for the Nikkor 18-200mm lens, it produces shadowing in the upper left and right-hand corners when used at 18mm. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the hood to stay on quite securely.

I see lots of complaints that the hood falls off easily. Mine has never fallen off! When you put it on your lens you have to make sure you click it into place! It takes a little force but thats it!!

Needs to fit on tighter. Will just randomly twist off and hence the reason I had to buy this one. Unfortunately it probably won't be the last. I am very confident it will twist off and be gone forever.
