Review Summary

Works great. The sliding lock on the side for use with long exposures on bulb setting is smooth and positive and the release is responsive. Works as you would expect it to. Very useful for normal exposures in keeping vibrations at bay when using shutter normally, or with mirror lockup for added vibration control. Also, some threaded 10pin Nikon accessories are typically difficult to start the threaded collar to prevent it from falling out and/or damaging the connector. That isn't the case with this unit. I had no trouble at all starting to thread it or unscrewing it by easily getting a grip on the collar. That can be a major frustration, especially when time is important during a shoot. The triangular white registration mark on the connector is a nice touch for aligning it to the camera and avoid damaging the pins. I recommend it.

Doesn't always work. It is challenging to screw into my Nikon D500. Oftentimes it will make it so the shutter won't fire.

Awesome "Wired Remote Trigger Release"! I'm using it for my D850 DSLR to use in night photography. I thought I can use this for my D750 but it's not. Anyway, I still have my old trigger release that I am using it in my old D90 before so it's still working for D750 when I tested it. Here's the sample of my shot using the remote trigger release.

I wish the cord was lonher or able to lengthen with a joint in the middle. 18 inches sometimes is not long enough. Easy to attach and use

Through no fault of the seller, the Nikon MC-30A Remote Trigger Release has a dark history (with me) of failing. In the most recent instance, this resulted in my needing to use a 2 second delay for landscape shots in Yellowstone National Park. Prior to this, the same cable release failed me in Iceland a couple of years ago. In talking with other photographers I have learned that my experience is not unique. For such an important tool, I would think that Nikon could do a better job. It's a device that I need so I continue to buy them.

Had one of those knock off shutter releases, it wouldn't work right about half the time. Got this one, no problems at all.

I bought this remote trigger to go along with the D810 I purchased. I read some of the wireless remote triggers either don't work or don't work well with this camera. At the recommendation of the sales rep who worked with me I bought one of these. I've used it a couple times and I have no problem with it at all. I don't understand how this item can cost so much. I'm thinking, ($) is in the ballpark. If you need one, get one. It works.

I had been swayed to try an off brand remote trigger somewhere else and what a mistake. Worked at first and then quit in the middle of a shoot. I came to Adorama (like I should have in the first place) and purchased this Nikon MC-30A. I am a busy photographer and take thousands of frames with this trigger and it's performed flawlessly. Take my advice and get one, don't be fooled as I was.

Used the remote trigger for only about 2 or 3 weeks, thus have only limited but good experience. This is the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. It is useful for macro and telephotography

I use this remote for low light or long exposure photography and camera shake must be minimal. I have accidently put the trigger into its locking mode and fumbled to release it. Do not over-tighten the thumb wheel when inserting or removing the remote from the camera body or else you will break the cord. I placed a piece of duct tape around part of the cord so I can easily find it in my camera bag when working in pitch black conditions.

A cable release is essential in every photographer's bag. Optical or radio don't work as well in bulb mode for long exposures.

The plug/locking ring part of the cable release broke within a week after I purchased it. poorly constructed. Suggest looking for a third party.

Fits securely and works as advertised. One thing to not is that depending on how you hold the remote you may inadvertently lock the release when not meaning to do so.

It's a shutter release remote and performs as expected. However, I feel that it is quite expensive for what it is since the Nikon wired remote for the D5xxx and D7xxx series (which I've had for almost 10 years) is less than half the price. But that's Nikon's pricing model. Adorama's service was impeccable.

I needed a remote trigger with a locking feature to use with my D500 and the MC-30A fit the bill with a Nikon quality part. The MC-30A trigger button works just like the shutter release button on the camera; half depressed to focus and full depressed to shoot. Of equal importance to me is the ability to lock the trigger depressed to be able to take Trap-focus shots. Everything feels solid and works like advertised. My only complaint is the price, which seems a little high - typical for anything with the "Nikon" name on the side.
