This microscope is like achilds toy. For something that costs [$] it should be better quality. Granted, [$] is not a lot of money, but this thing is junk.

As advertised, this is a field microscope, and as such is a wonderful piece of equipment. It is both light, and well constructed, usually the two are mutually exclusive when it comes to microscopes, but Nikon has done a top notch job of combining the two. Focus is smooth, the image quality is excellent and the reversible stage comes in quite handy. It comes with a high quality soft sided carrying case and about the only thing I would suggest as an improvement is a set of stage clips. I ordered a pair from a microscope supply house, and jury-rigged them to fit. They are an absolute necessity when observing flat, light weight objects in the field, i,e, leaves, petals, etc. I also purchased a dual headed LED book light (battery powered) for an illumination source. Works very nicely both indoors and out. I'm very happy with my purchase and it will be accompanying me on many a field trip in the future.
