Great for telephoto and macro use.

I bought this extension tube to use with my Nikon 300mm f/2.8 AI lens, with or w/o the teleconverters, as well as with my Nikon 105 f/2.8 AF-D Micro lens, which I also use with a teleconverter at times. The benefit I get from this extension tube is that the minimum focusing distance is reduced. This helps when I wish to, or able to, get closer to the subject with my telephoto setup. And with macro photography, I can obtain pictures that are greater than 1:1 size of the subject. Naturally, the maximum distance is reduced as well, so make the call when it's time to use them or not. As advertised, you can only manually focus with this tube. I knew this when I purchased, and that's fine with me. I almost always focus manually for macro shots and my telephoto lens is an older manual focus lens.

Not for Autofocus Uses

The Nikon PK-13 extension tube does not have the electrical contacts required for autofocus and liveview. Purchase the Kenko brand auto extension tubes instead. I didn't do my homework and had to return this item to Adorama. They honored their return policy 100%. I am very pleased with Adorama's service and would highly reccomend them others.

Does not work with common G- type lenses

I can't use it; not comparable with any of the reasonably priced lenses

Perfect if you know what you need

The other reviews all bad mouth this poor extension tube, but obviously they didn't read the description. This is not a teleconverter, much less one for AF lenses! It is simply a device that will increase your magnification ratio for macro by increasing the distance between the back of your lens and the sensor in your camera. It is perfect for that. There were three in the series of extension tubes and this one is the longest. On a 55mm macro lens for example it will take the lens from 1:2 (half of life size) up to 1:1 (life size) It is important to note that it ONLY WORKS ON MANUAL FOCUS LENSES, which is why it's exceptional for macro lenses. Technically you can use it with any lens you want, but it will only let you use manual focus. I'm giving this 5 stars because it does what it says it will do and because other people ordered a radio when they wanted a vacuum cleaner and then told everyone the radio was junk because it didn't pick up lint;-)

Extension Tube

This extension tube is Okay but it does not have any of teh contacts etc. to pass the F Stop/Auto focus information between teh lens and camera. As a totally manual option this product works great.

Nikon extension tube PK-13

Before I purchased this item, I had read information on the net including NIKON USA, I thought positive - This Nikon for Nikon; however, it doesn't work on my D300 with 18-200 / 70-300 VR Nikon zoom. Is this an exception ? Why Nikon[...] didn't say anything or something wrong with my D300 ? Waist time and money and the trust. I have been with Nikon for 40+years ! I hope I'm wrong.

Works exactly as it is supposed to.

It's expensive for what you get. On the other hand, think how much it would cost if made by Leica!

Nikon extension rings can be used singly or in combination to vary the reproduction ratio of lenses from 20 to 300mm. They are mounted between the camera body and the lens, As a rule, the effect becomes stronger the shorter the focal length of the lens in use, and the longer the focal length of the extension ring. Through the-lens exposure control automatically compensates for lens extension. Manual and aperture-priority auto-exposure control modes are possible. Manual focus only.
