It is a must for me to get my flash above the shoe. I use a bracket and this sync cord to do the job. They last a good long time, despite the workout I give them. I like Nikon's products and use them exclusively. I use a Stroboframe bracket with this product and have replaced it at least once per year. The consistent problem lies in the hotshoe separating from the plastic housing. The hotshoe is just not capable of handling the weight of the SB-900 or SB-910. My business associate bought the knock off brand for half the price. He loves it and replaces it as religiously as I have.

Just had this about two weeks. I took advantage of a sale. So far I have really enjoyed the effects of getting the flash off the camera, though still in the learning stage of what works. The cord has worked with my D70, D40, & D7000, using a Nikon SB 400 & a Quantaray/Sunpak flash . I haven't used in a dark setting so its lacking the AF illuminator has not affected me.

It has reported in online forums that this product may not work with Nissin flashes. I have a Nikkon D5100 and a Nissin 866i mark 2 and they won't work with this cable.

I've bought 4 of these in 7 years and all four have failed. As expensive as these things are you would think they would last much longer. I'm going to try the Phottix Strato brand. If it fails after a year, at least it was much cheaper than the OEM part and it lasted about as long

I have tried third party cables and they don't always fire. This Nikon cable works every time. If you do a lot of off camera flash sync work pick up a few hot shoe covers. I lose them all the time.

The Nikon Dedicated Sync Cord allows me to take photographs using off-camera flash, avoiding red-eye, but using sculpturing lighting in photographs of people. It also allows accentuating inanimate objects such as engravings on marble tombstones. If my cameras and flash are with me, the sync cord is as well.

This is a must have accessory for your tool kit. Comes in handy when you need to hand hold your flash off to the side. Also works well on camera frames.

The cord faces forward so you have to keep it out of the way of the less, would have been better to exit on back.
