This lens system opens up so many creative options! The aperture blades make nice bokeh when stopped down in my opinion. This is a comparatively inexpensive way to experiment with tilt (but not shift) perspective control using a well constructed device. When used without tilt, it becomes a respectable 80mm conventional manual lens. There is no autofocus or image stabilization, and the aperture must be manually adjusted, hence the learning experience part. The lack of automatic features does enable opportunity for amazing photos, but those unfamiliar with manually operating a lens will have a bit of a learning curve before lens operation becomes intuitive. The things I like most about this system are 1) the ability to purchase additional optics (lenses) like wide angle and fish-eye without the cost of entire new lenses 2) I could potentially carry several lenses in my backpack with far less bulk than conventional lenses. 3) has standard 46mm filter threads 4) no aperture rings to drop and lose. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because 1) I'd like the system to include a teleconverter and three sharp Edge type optics of long, medium and short focal length instead of just an 80 and a fish-eye. 2) It would be extremely nice if there was a "shift" capability as well as "tilt".

The Lensbaby Composer Pro with Edge 80 is an All-in-One tilt photography solution for Nikon DSLR shooters. This 80mm f/2.8 lens is compact, lightweight and affordable. Tilting the lens in any direction results in a slice of focus through your image, similar to the tilt effect in a tilt-shift lens. Incredibly versatile, choosing not to tilt the lens will make spectacular "straight" photos - just as you'd get shooting with a "normal" 80mm lens.
The Composer Pro with Edge 80 is a versatile lens well suited to portraits, miniature-style photos, landscapes and more. For added versatility, the Composer Pro with Edge 80 has a built-in close-focus mode; simply extend the front of the optic and focus as close to 17" away from your subject.
The Composer Pro with Edge 80 has a flat field of focus that, pointed straight ahead, takes photos that are sharp from edge to edge. Tilting the Edge 80 allows photographers to create vertical, horizontal and diagonal slices of focus through the image. Objects in both the foreground and the background can be in focus within that slice.
Photographers can alter the size of the slice of focus by changing the 12-blade aperture controlled by a dial on the front of the optic. For example, f/2.8 will produce a thin slice of focus with abundant blur. F/22 will produce a very wide slice of focus with just a small amount of blur. The 12 aperture blades also result in uncommonly smooth, round bokeh.
