Great lens. Only downside is the large size.

This lens has helped me produce some stunning images. The optical quality paired with that razor thin DoF of f/1.2 has really brought my visions for shots to life. You will not be disappointed. From the moment I snapped it on my camera I was in love with it. I've shot a multitude of genre with it. All a pleasure. Though I will say, it being an older lens in the lineup, its focusing is a tad slower than the newer lenses. Not too slow, though. I have shot several live music events and have captured amazing action shots. If funds allow, any of the super fast primes will make a perfect addition to your kit.

Just an incredible lens that provide the results you would expect from the Nikkor prime with an F 1.2 max aperture. Pairs nicely with my Z7ii with MD-N11 grip, along with a smallrig cage custom designed for the body and grip. My only gripe is with the size; (I thought my old 28-70 2.8D was large. But you should get use to it after several uses. I have kept this lens on my d7ii as the main lens over the 28-75 2.8.

I'm pretty new to photography but I am having a lot of fun with this lens. It fits nicely on a Z8 and I think it's pretty well balanced. I have no regrets picking up this lens and once the holidays are over I am excited to get some free time to go out and use it a bit more.

The Z 50mm f/1.2S is an exquisite lens that funnels light. It's heavy, but not too heavy to hang over the shoulder. Perceptually, it's not unlike the Z 24-70 f/2.8 to carry around all day. I've started to use it as my everyday lens given how very useful the 50mm focal length happens to be. I also like its minimum focus distance. If I could give this lens six starts, I would!

Undoubtably the Best Lens I have ever used!! To make such a sharp lens at F1.2 is Unbelievable...I am blown away, Seriously!!!

The lens wide open is sharp edge to edge and not a hint of vigbetting so no need to stop down for sharpness. The one review says the focus grip is to wide maybe. when im shooting video I like the width and when hand holding I wouldnt mind the foward grip being a little bit wider. For me its 5 stars as i cant give it 4 7/8 its not that big of a knock off to me.

Amazing lens! Poor control surface ergonomics though, compared to the well designed z 85 1.2. The focus ring on the z 50 1.2 is twice as wide as it needs to be and leaves less room to hold the lens securely. The AF button should be moved forward. However everything else is 1st class! So glad to see Nikon stepping up their high end lineup. I do hope future primes will follow the design of the z 85 1.2 which proves that even large lenses function well in the hand if the ergonomics are good.

I used this lens over the weekend. A fantastic lens - not going to repeat what everyone has shared. I'm a pretty big guy - and the weight of the lens on a Z9 is substantial when using it for hours at a time. That being said, the weight is not a deal breaker. The photos were fantastic. Like exercising, I am very happy that I got this lens as the pain was worth the gain.

This is a very sharp low light, versatile prime lens for outdoors and indoors. Can be used for portraiture as long as you respect and avoid the distortion possibilities a 50 mm can create. This lens and the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 would make a good two lens only combination.

After 48 years into serious photography, I went from 50mm lenses, to a wide, normal plus telephoto, then to excellent zooms (50-135AIS) then to lighter, cheaper and less fabulous zooms that pushed me back to excellent primes (58 1.4G + 85 1.4G). These later ones made me discover the beauty of creamy Bokeh! The D850s were traded for the Z8 and a few primes. This 50mm f/1.2 is the best lens I have ever owned. I recently took a 14 days trip in central america with only that lens and the Z8. The Bokeh from F1.2 to f/4 is the best Bokeh so far. Creamier than the 58mm 1.4G!! My favorite Bokeh on this lens is at f/1.4. I shoot wide open, allowing the Z8 to focus on grandchildren (toddlers) constantly moving; and the focus on the closest eye + great Bokeh makes exceptional images!! (I needed to get used to the weight, and to hold the camera by the center of the barrel of the lens! Adaptation took a week.) All my other Z primes are great, lighter, but I will only carry this lens. Is also excellent for landscapes: -you choose the degree of Bokeh/depth of field, by using/turning the ring on the lens barel! (Just like in film days, but without the darkening effect caused in the viewfinder the DOF button!) It is that good. Enjoy photography!

The 1.2 Fifty is an excellent lens, giving me exactly what I was looking for. It is sharp, contrasty and brilliant from corner to corner. It is excellent for natural light portraits, has an extremely depth of field yet holds good color values from front to back. It's only downside is its weight. It is heavy.

Great piece of glass. I got it to use for portraits but I also found an unconventional use for it, Volleyball. I was shooing in tight quarters at a state tournament and I need the extra light the f/1.2 would give me. Fantastic results even wide open. Quick lock on focus and great results.

Is it heavy? Compared to what? Another 50mm that won't give you exactly the results you want? The extra aperture allows for more flexibility in low light situations and imprints an artistic character to my images that the f1.8 does not. For me, it's worth the extra heft and the additional trips to the gym.

I love this lens. I wish it was little more compacts like the Canon lens. It appears to be designed like their F mount lenses with a built in adapter. It is extremely sharp lens. You MUST turn the manual lens ring off in the camera settings. Its really easy to accidentally move the focus ring slightly when holding it. It was like setting G12 in my Z 7ii bodies settings.

Simply unreal. Having shot with a D850 and the Nikon 50mm 1.4 (which feels ancient at this point) for years, I recently upgraded to a Nikon Z9 and this 50mm 1.2, and I'm simply blown away. I'm definitely no lens scientist, and my tests were very simple: does it autofocus fast enough for a wedding photographer? And is it sharp? And both of those questions were definitely confirmed within the first 5 minutes. I went for a walk with it, and at 1.2 the sharpness blew me away, with almost no colour fringing whatsoever. I'm sure I'll learn more as we go along, but if you can afford this heavy beast, absolutely buy it, you won't use anything like it.

I have a LOT of 50mm lenses and I am usually a snob when it comes to this focal length and I tend to buy only the best (as my wallet/wife permits). Note that the 50/1.8S (which I also have) is head-and-shoulders better than any Nikon-brand 50mm f1.4 or f1.8 F mount lenses, but nothing would prepare you on how much better this lens is. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's larger and heavier. But it's SHARP from f1.2 onwards...not "usable" or "somewhat sharp"...it's "sharp" and it begs to be used at that aperture. If you are using this on the Z6/Z7, you will have to update to the v3.40 firmware to make it useable with Eye AF.

My favorite prime lens is a 50 mm. Over the years I have owned three along with a close cousin, a Micro-Nikkor 55 mm f/3.5K. Good lenses all, but hands down the Z 50 mm f/1.2 S is tops. And not just tops among my 50s; it is far and away the best Nikkor I own. The Z 50mm f/1.2 S quickly became my go-to lens. It is solid and it easily earned my trust to deliver what I ask it to. Superior image quality. Fast and accurate focusing. Intensely acute even wide open. Out-of-focus areas melt into the background with fluid smoothness. The resulting bokeh isolates the main subject clearly and adds exquisite beauty. Edge-to-edge acuity makes it perfect for group portraits as well as for full height and ¾ to ½ length individual portraits - think maternity. Coupled with a Z 7II, the 50/1.2 renders gorgeous colors, especially at ISO 64. In my experience as a stills photographer there is one knock on this lens: the control ring moves too freely to prevent unintended input. I set the control ring for ISO control (can also control aperture and exposure compensation) but, even trying consciously not to, I was constantly changing my original setting when hand-holding the lens. This became frustrating to the point I reset the control ring to have no function. However, videographers probably praise this easy movement because they can adjust aperture so very smoothly.

Beautiful, but huge. I love it, but I don't carry it around much. I would suggest you don't sell your 50 1.8 if you have one, I did and I've regretted it. That's a sweet little lens and the background blur isn't even all that massively different between them. I love the image quality on this, but I miss the portability of its smaller brother.

Z Mount allows for the Nikon to design a lens that does everything write. End to End sharpness and close to optically perfect you ever seen. While I'm loving the lens there is one drawback, it's a beast of a lens both in quality but the weight is a consideration. But this 50mm Z is a worthy investment and you won't go wrong.

Magical and professional

This lense is the best lense I ever owned. Once I held it in my hands, it felt extremely premium. I was able to experience using it for a few cases and shooting at 1.2 is a breeze. Photos are sharp corner to corner. You can use even the original z6/7 eye focus and have zero issues with portrait situations. I shot wide open and got 95% photo accuracy. Which is impressive! The bokeh is outstanding in every way. It works amazing with backlit situations very well too!! I am addicted to u...

Explore the world of professional photography with the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens. This high-quality, advanced lens is designed to deliver extraordinary rendering power across the entire frame, making it an ideal choice for photographers seeking superior performance and craftsmanship.
The NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens is a product of Nikon's innovative Z Mount system, known for its compatibility with fast lenses. With its vast f/1.2 maximum aperture, this lens allows you to capture stunning images in low light conditions and achieve a shallow depth of field for a dramatic bokeh effect, thanks to its 9 rounded blade diaphragm.
This lens is equipped with a breakthrough autofocus system that uses two smaller energy-efficient STM stepping motors instead of a single powerful motor. This innovative design results in faster, quieter, and more precise autofocus operation, making it a first for an f/1.2 lens. The stepping motors are nearly inaudible, ensuring silent operation when shooting stills or recording videos.
The NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens also excels in backlighting situations. Its anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat (N) and ARNEO (A) coatings virtually eliminate flare, ghosting, and coma by suppressing incidental light coming from any direction.
Designed for durability, this lens is extensively sealed to keep out dust and moisture, especially around the moving parts of the lens barrel. This weatherproof build allows you to shoot in various conditions without worrying about damaging your equipment.
The NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens also features a lens info panel that allows you to quickly confirm focus distance, depth of field, and aperture when shooting from a tripod or gimbal.
This bundle comes with a Hoya NXT Plus 82mm UV+CPL Filter Kit and a Cleaning Kit, providing you with everything you need to maintain the quality of your lens and enhance your photography experience.
In summary, the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens is a high-quality, professional, and advanced lens that offers superior performance, innovative features, and durable construction, making it an excellent choice for both professional photographers and photography enthusiasts.
