I expected excellence. What I got was enslavement. You do not own this lens. It owns you, It really is hard to shoot with other lenses after experiencing this. The image quality is just indescribable. It is manual focus, yes...but it is so easy to focus on static subjects and I can get adequate focus on moving subjects with focus peaking in the excellent EVF of my z5. Once you get used to it, hand holding is not too bad and compared to my Nikkor 200mm f/2 VR2 (which I am used to on an F5), it is a mere child. It is large but what professional mirrorless or SLR lenses are not these days. I have not had anyone stop and ask me about it like my Rolleiflexes or my film Leica M cameras. It just melds into the background like a typical 24 to 70 or 70 to 200 zoom. This lens joins my Linn Sondek LP12 and my Mark Levinson amplifier as ultimate products of a lifetime. I am so happy I had the courage to spring for it.

It is not my favorite focal length, but its qualities have made me exercise more and expand my horizons. Ive been using it for a year now. The results are extremely satisfying for the quality of sharpness and bokeh. It's a beauty. Very difficult to focus, but the Z6's focus aids like peaking highlights solve this, and you have to have a very steady hand, because your breathing already changes the focus. I hardly use a tripod, so I have to be careful. The quality of the construction is impressive, one of the best I've seen on a Nikkor and the electronic viewfinder and Noct logo are very elegant. The lens is not huge (it is for a 58mm!) but it weighs 2 kg! It seems to be made of lead! I don't know why the glass has such high specific weight. I need to move around a lot to photograph (one of the reasons I hate tripods) and the weight of it gets in the way. I don't trust the camera strap, so I use a Blackrapid connected to the lens tripod support (thankfully it has) to get around and even so I support the set inside a small Lowepro bag so it doesn't get hitting my leg. Special logistics for the use of the lens. Lastly: if you want to use f / 0.95, stay in the shadows or use a neutral density filter.

Expensive, but I don't regret buying it.

Are you ready to elevate your photography to unprecedented levels of clarity, detail, and artistic expression The NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct Lens is not just the fastest NIKKOR lens ever created; it's a paragon of the lens craft, a manual focus marvel that boasts the largest aperture in NIKKOR's storied history: f/0.95. This lens is a testament to over a century of optical expertise and innovation, designed for the discerning photographer who demands nothing but the best.
Crafted with the groundbreaking Z mount, the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct Lens ushers in a new era of performance. Experience vast depth-of-field control and an elaborate bokeh that adds a dramatic, dreamlike quality to your portraiture and video work. The lens's superior point-image reproduction and exceptional low-light capabilities make it a powerhouse for night landscapes and astrophotography. Its outstanding resolving power is also ideal for industrial and scientific applications, capturing intricate details with precision.
The NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct Lens is a masterpiece of innovation, inspired by Nikon's rich legacy and built for the future of photography. As part of the esteemed S-Line of NIKKOR Z lenses, it represents the pinnacle of Nikon's optical excellence and innovation, delivering superior performance, resolution, and sophisticated operability.
Hyper-real resolution is at your fingertips, as the Noct renders fine details with unwavering sharpness across the entire frame, giving stills and videos an almost hyper-real characteristic. The f/0.95 aperture is not just a number; it's a gateway to creative possibilities, allowing the Noct to achieve outstanding resolving power from the maximum aperture by intensively compensating for aberrations typically noticeable with fast lenses.
Precision manual focusing allows you to channel your creativity with one of the finest manual focusing mechanisms in a NIKKOR lens. Paired with the clarity of Z series cameras' focus peaking, you can compose with pinpoint accuracy. The Noct's bokeh is meticulously engineered for optimum continuity, ensuring a smooth transition from a tack-sharp focal plane to a beautifully blurred background, even when subject-background distance is limited.
For astrophotography and night landscapes, the Noct's superb point-image reproduction means that point light sources like stars and city lights are captured as perfect points, even at the edges of the frame, thanks to intensive elimination of sagittal coma.
The Noct is equipped with cutting-edge optical technologies, including Nikon's advanced Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat, which work together to eliminate ghosting, reflections, and flaring, ensuring crisp, clean images even in challenging backlit conditions. The use of a large-diameter ground aspherical lens element with exceptional surface accuracy and a high refractive index ensures that the Noct stands apart in terms of optical quality.
Durability is also a hallmark of the Noct, with Nikon's proprietary Fluorine Coat providing dust, dirt, and moisture repellent properties, ensuring the lens is ready for the toughest shooting environments. The electromagnetic diaphragm ensures accurate control during continuous shooting, while the built-in OLED information panel offers quick confirmation of aperture, focus distance, and depth-of-field, even in low light situations.
Completing this exceptional package, the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct lens comes bundled with a custom Trunk Case CT-101 and HN-38 Hood, along with a 3Pod TREK Series Tripod and Arca Type Ball Head, ProOptic 82mm Filter Kit, Cleaning Kit, and Universal Lens Cap Tether. This bundle not only provides you with the ultimate lens for precision and artistry but also equips you with the essential accessories to enhance your photography journey.
Embrace the zenith of Nikon's lens technology with the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct Lens and discover a world of photographic possibilities that only Nikon could envision and bring to life.
